Huawei Hongmeng on the train, how much is the imagination of the Internet of Vehicles?

Not yet born in the rivers and lakes, but the rivers and lakes are your legend.

This sentence is used to describe Huawei’s Hongmeng OS. So in the eyes of everyone, the Huawei Hongmeng system finally unveiled.

On August 9th, Huawei’s consumer business officially released a micro-kernel-based distributed operating system for the whole scene at its global developer conference, Hongmeng OS, whose English name is HarmonyOS, meaning “harmony”. Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei’s consumer business, said that he hopes to bring more harmony and convenience to the world. “The future operating system should be a micro-kernel architecture that can adapt to any terminal.

It is reported that the new category of smart screen TV will be the first to use Hongmeng OS.

Yu Chengdong said that when introducing the original intention of Hongmeng OS development:
“With the advent of the era of full-scenario wisdom, Huawei believes that it is necessary to further enhance the cross-platform capabilities of the operating system, including the ability to support the entire scenario, across multiple devices and platforms, and the ability to cope with low latency and high security challenges. The prototype of Hongmeng OS.
It can be said that the starting point of Hongmeng OS is different from Android and iOS. It is a new micro-kernel-based distributed operating system for the whole scene, which can satisfy the smooth experience of the whole scene, the architecture-level trusted security, and the seamless across terminals. Collaboration and the requirement to develop a multi-terminal deployment at a time, Hongmeng should be born in the future.

Simply speaking, Huawei’s Hongmeng system is the product of Huawei’s full-scenario experience era. It can be applied to smart phones, smart screens, car devices, smart speakers and other smart terminals.

Hong Meng on the train?

Hongmeng OS was originally designed to meet the high standard connectivity requirements of the full scene smart experience. For this reason, Huawei proposed four system solutions:

  • Distributed architecture is used for terminal OS for the first timeTerminal seamless collaborative experience
  • Determining the latency engine and high-performance IPC technology to make the system natural and smooth
  • Reinventing trusted devices for terminal devices based on microkernel architecture
  • Supporting one development and multi-end deployment through unified IDE to realize cross-terminal ecological sharing

This also confirms Hongmeng OS and Android, iOS is not the same operating system.
Based on this unique system, Huawei is expected to create a new mobile Internet ecosystem.

In its future full-scenario smart life map, Huawei’s consumer business puts forward the strategy of “1+8+N”:
1 is the mobile phone is the main entrance, 8 is the entrance of 4 large screens:
PCs, tablets, smart screens, and car screens, instead of large screens, are now available with headphones, speakers, watches, and glasses.
N is the Huawei HiLink ecosystem consisting of pan-IoT hardware.

The car is one of Huawei’s eight IoT auxiliary portals, which means that Hongmeng system may be installed on the car system developed by Huawei in the future.

But Huawei’s ambitions are not limited to the car system.

Previously, Zheng Zhengfei said in his internal speech:
For the ICT business, “Internet of Vehicles, Artificial Intelligence, and Edge Computing are our three major breakthroughs in the future.
The Internet of Vehicles can set up commercial organizations and increase investment.
In the face of smart car connection, vehicle computing, automatic driving, etc. are all important directions of the Internet of Vehicles, as a strategic commitment, laser radar, etc. should focus on the direction of ICT core technology.

A week after Ren Zhengfei’s speech, on May 27, Huawei’s smart car solution BU was established.

This means that the Internet of Vehicles is one of Huawei’s core businesses for future expansion.
The car system is just an entry point for Huawei to enter the car network and even the automotive field.

Huawei’s rotating chairman Xu Zhijun once said:
“Maybe in the automotive industry ten years later, Huawei is very bullish, like the current mobile phone industry.

From mobile phone to car, Hongmeng system will be the connection point of two ecological.

Who is the “Hongmeng+Car”?

Although it has already started cooperation with car companies long ago, at this year’s Shanghai Auto Show, when Huawei officially announced its entry into the automotive field, it once again emphasized that Huawei does not build cars, but instead enters the field of automotive electronics through ICT technology. A world-class Tier1 incremental supplier that provides partners with vehicle networking related solutions.

Huawei Hongmeng got on the bus, how much is the imagination of the Internet of Vehicles?

At present, Huawei can provide car customers with:
Based on MDC (Mobile Data Center)-based vehicle computing platform and intelligent driving subsystem solution, Huawei-based automatic driving (training, simulation, testing) cloud service Octopus, 4G/5G vehicle mobile communication module and T-BOX and vehicle network , HUAWEI HiCar people-car-home full scene seamless interconnection solutions and other services.

The HUAWEI HiCar People-Car-Home Seamless Interconnect Solution was the first exposure at the Shanghai Auto Show.
With this plan, Huawei and Volvo Car reached a strategic cooperation.
On Volvo’s next-generation intelligent in-vehicle interconnection system, “smart interconnection” services such as Huawei’s application market will be introduced to create a rich and open in-car intelligent service platform and a new experience of smart life in the whole scene.

From the repeated mention of “full scene smart life”, Volvo’s next-generation in-vehicle system may have the opportunity to experience Huawei Hongmeng system.

New car network route

In the current mainstream car system, there are two modes:
  One is that the OEM builds an independent car network system through self-built and cooperative means. This car system is generally developed on the basis of Android system, such as Zebra system, AliOS;
The other is based on the way of mobile screen projection to solve vehicle networking problems, such as Apple’s Carplay, Baidu’s Carlife.

Yu Chengdong mentioned at the developer conference that both iOS and Android kernels are large and cumbersome.
“Usually, what we really use is only 8% of the code in the kernel. It is difficult to ensure smoothness in such a large and redundant design.
“Hongmeng OS is the world’s first micro-kernel-based distributed OS, and has distributed architecture support, which can provide a natural and smooth kernel-level security ecosystem. Huawei Hongmeng on the car, about the imagination of the Internet of Vehicles how many?

“Software ecology and hardware are bundled, greatly increasing development workload, how to make work more efficient, breaking between devices Walls, ecological sharing, and cross-terminal implementation are the requirements of our OS.

Ecological sharing, cross-ecology, Hongmeng system may be able to develop the car systemProvide a new way of thinking.

Of course, the application of Huawei Hongmeng in the car system is still unknown, but it does not prevent us from proposing a possibility.

But now obviously there are more important things to do, because it is obvious that most of the current mobile Internet applications are based on Android and IOS systems. The first step in how to take the rich content ecology in the future is still A serious problem.

Application software development should be based on a large user base, and the growth of a large user base is inseparable from the application as a point of interest, which is a loop problem.

But fortunately, Huawei’s application ecology is not limited to a certain field. Its “1+8+N” strategy can continuously accumulate user groups, first cultivate user bases in a lightweight ecology, and then gradually achieve growth. After all, no one can eat a big ecology.
