On December 18, Baidu Apollo held the first ecological conference in Changsha, and released a number of heavy news.

  • The Apollo Automated Driving Open Platform released Apollo 5.5, and its “point-to-point urban autonomous driving” capability will be fully opened. This is the first time this capability has been opened to the outside world;

  • Released 15 new products and solutions such as autonomous driving cloud, next-generation intelligent transportation solution, and small car 2020;

  • In addition, Apollo also released two open platforms: car-road synergy and smart car linkage. So far, it has formed three major platforms and a triple-open layout.

    Li Zhenyu, vice president of Baidu and general manager of the intelligent driving business group, said in his speech, Although large-scale deployment of autonomous driving is still a long time ago, Baidu expects that certain cities at any time in 2024 You can call a driverless taxi.

    The latest release of Apollo 5.5 is for autonomous driving scenarios that can be mass-produced. Such as the Robotaxi solution for urban open roads, the Minibus 2.0 solution for urban BRT roads, the autonomous parking solution for the last mile, the low-speed mini-car solution for low-speed and low-cost scenarios, and the autonomous driving cloud.

    The new small car 2020 belongs to the newly released open platform of smart car association. CarLife + is a mobile screen projection solution. The first version of Baidu CarLife was first launched in January 2015. In the past 4 years, Apple CarPlay has appeared in many models in parallel with Apple CarPlay, all of which are wired connections. After this upgrade, CarLife + can use Wifi or Bluetooth for wireless connection.

    Du Xiao mirror is a car-machine linkage intelligent rear view mirror. According to Baidu Apollo, the product will integrate navigation, driving assistance, voice interaction, and entertainment functions. “Based on the smart car association, Du Xiaojing will help strengthen the operator’s ability to deploy IoT smart terminals, and then help to quickly deploy V2X car-end capabilities,” said Su Tan, general manager of Baidu’s connected car business unit.

    At the conference site, China Unicom announced that it has become Du Xiaojing’s first ecological partner. As early as last year, China Unicom joined the Baidu Apollo Board as an observer.

    At this conference, Zhang Yaqin attended as the chairman of Baidu’s Apollo Ecological Council. In October 2019, Zhang Yaqin retired from Baidu. Baidu CEO Li Yanhong launched a Baidu executive retirement plan through an open letter on March 15 this year. Zhang Yaqin was the first executive to join the retirement plan. After Lu Qi left office last year, Zhang Yaqin took the baton of the Apollo project and was responsible for related affairs.

    It has become an industry trend to replace a single connected car or autonomous driving product with a complete set of smart car solutions. This new product release of Baidu Apollo may expand its commercial scenarios, but it will take time for autonomous driving to land. The domestic automotive market has become increasingly saturated. Whether Baidu’s new Apollo products can stand out from the fierce competition requires market and time tests .
