According to a statement issued by China Mobile, the 5G network launched in the first phase covers the entire territory, including hotspots, mainstream infrastructure and landmark malls. In terms of network speed, the latency of the 5G network tested at the launching ceremony was less than 10ms, the download speed exceeded 1Gbps, and the upload speed exceeded 130Mbps.

At present, China Mobile Hong Kong Company has established and opened 500 5G base stations in Hong Kong, and 5G coverage in major areas (such as Central and Western District, Wan Chai and Causeway Bay) has reached more than 90%.

According to the plans of the three major operators, the target of 5G base stations in 2020 is 550,000, of which China Mobile plans to target 300,000, and China Unicom and China Telecom plan to jointly build 250,000 5G base stations. The three major operators’ investment and speed in 5G have entered a new level after the “5G first year” in 2019.

Speaking of 5G investment and base station scale in 2020, China Mobile also stated in its 2019 financial report that the company’s capital expenditure budget for 2020 is 179.8 billion yuan, of which 5G-related investment plans are about 100 billion yuan, and it is planned to be at the end of 2020. Build more than 300,000 5G base stations, and basically achieve 5G coverage in urban areas above the city.
