According to Japanese media reports, a number of Japanese electronic component manufacturers revealed that domestic mobile phone manufacturers such as Xiaomi, OPPO, and vivo have issued a large number of stock orders, hoping to seize the market vacancy left by Huawei.

An employee of a large Japanese electronic parts manufacturer said, “The order at the end of September has reached a record high, and some manufacturers also intend to double their production plans for next year.”

According to market research organization IDC, global smartphone shipments will decrease by 10% to 1.2 billion units in the fourth quarter of 2020. Huawei is expected to produce about 190 million mobile phones this year, a 20% decrease from 2019. However, many mobile phone manufacturers are still expanding production.

Apple iPhone shipments are expected to reach 220 million units this year, 10% more than originally planned. According to many supply chain sources, Xiaomi and OPPO also plan to increase production in 2021 and produce 200 million smartphones, an increase of more than half compared to 2020.

However, some suppliers have warned that it is only a “special one-time demand boost” and that this phenomenon will be adjusted next year.
