As long as there is a high salary, there is no shortage of talents.

Core Tips

The chip industry continues to heat up, and chip talents are scarce. Training institutions take the opportunity to fill positions and provide practical talents for the industry. Those who admire the high salaries of chips began to rush into training courses frantically, just to get a ticket to the chip industry.

Under the chip boom, chip training courses are beginning to become popular, and a brand new outlet is taking off.

On October 22, Nanjing University of Integrated Circuits was officially unveiled, causing a sensation in the industry. According to the “White Paper on Talents in China’s Integrated Circuit Industry (2019-2020 Edition)”, it is estimated that the chip talent gap will be around 200,000 by 2022.

At present, the chip entrepreneurship boom is on the rise, and Internet companies are also recruiting chip talents with high salaries. For a while, chip engineers have become popular.

The once silent chip training class began to import technical talents into the industry, and a large number of students poured into the training class, wanting to get an “entry ticket” to the chip industry.

The number of students has increased by 2 times, and the training institution is too busy

Lu Sang, the founder of Luke Verification, could not have imagined that there will be so many people applying for training courses this year.

Two years ago, the Luke verification training course opened for the first time and only 30 students were recruited. In the future, there will be two sessions a year, divided into spring and autumn classes. The number of trainees will increase by 20-30 each term, and the growth has been relatively stable.

For the 2020 Fall Class, 160 people have signed up before the start of the class, which has exceeded the previous number of applicants. After the class started, people continued to join in. Lu Sang predicts that the number of students in the autumn recruitment class will reach 300, which is twice the number of the spring class.

The IC Test Network, which specializes in packaging and testing training, also found that after the news of Huawei’s sanctions, the domestic demand for packaging and testing talents has surged.

Starting from 2014, the number of offline students of the IC test network has stabilized at 10 people per session. In 2019, before the IC test network started, some students asked about the course, and the number of applicants increased by 5 times. This year, they taught 120 students, three times the total number of students in the past four years.

After the summer of 2020, the industry’s largest training organization E Course Network went offline and went into colleges and universities to preach. Founder Lai Linhui can feel that the popularity of chips is in universitiesAnti-needle, “This is not 9 yuan, 9 python”, I hope that students will be fully prepared, but only 60% of the students reach the standard every year, and 40% need to be retaken.

On the E class network, students have a pass rate of 90%, but Lai Linhui also told Leopard that the salary of students for employment is not as high as imagined. Graduating from a training course is more like getting a ticket to an industry. The success or failure afterwards depends on the individual.

The other problem is the teacher. Li Jian can feel that the quality of the lecturers in the training class is uneven. In the first class, the teacher spoke very plainly. After the replacement, he could still notice that the other teacher was in class for the first time. Li Jian also accidentally discovered that the head teacher of the class next door was only 25 years old. “Have you graduated with graduate students?” Li Jian wanted to ask.

This is also a concern for Lu Sang.

In the past 2 years, Lu Sang will add each student’s WeChat account, and in the mid-term, interview Ask to learnThe learning progress of the member. When the number of students increased, he was unable to do what he wanted.

Lu Sang thought about recruiting new teachers, but the dilemma is that the salary of a full-time senior engineer is beyond the organization’s affordability, and there are not many projects willing to work part-time. Moreover, part-time teachers cannot systematically sort out their own training system and continuously output.

An employee of an AI chip company told Leopard that when the company was hiring, it would feel a little disgusted with trainees. The main reason was that the interviewer found that the resumes of the students were the same, which seemed to be a template. After in-depth inquiry, they understood The knowledge is limited.

A senior chip engineer also revealed that colleagues have criticized the trainees for being inactive, inactive, and lacking in problem-solving skills.

However, Lai Linhui often tells companies to treat them equally and not to compare new graduates who have just entered the profession with experienced engineers. “After all, I still know a little bit, so I can use it directly.”

Lu Sang also hopes that the industry’s attitude towards training courses is not negative. In order to make students stand out during the interview, Luke verified that the basic V2 course was upgraded to incorporate higher-level content.

In 2018, among the 8.2 million national graduates, only 2.6% of chip graduates, and only 12% of graduates, entered the industry. The chip talent gap has been repeatedly mentioned after Huawei was sanctioned.

Chip expert Wei Shaojun gave advice, “We must encourage a group of people who are not engaged in integrated circuits to transform into integrated circuits, and increase the on-the-job training of enterprises.”

To some extent, the training courses are speeding up this process. With the promotion of integrated circuits to a first-level discipline and the establishment of Nanjing Integrated Circuit University, the chip industry is also sounding the clarion call for talent training.
