Leviathan’s note: In the movie “The Night When Comets Come” (Coherence, 2013), we have already seen what the multiverse/parallel space brings Our shock and confusion, this feeling is like the “Carp” scientists mentioned in “Beyond Time and Space: A Scientific Journey Through Parallel Universes, Time Curls, and the Tenth Dimension” by Kalai Michio. They firmly believe that the only reality exists. The real thing is what the fish can see and touch. The pool is everything. The invisible world beyond the pool has no scientific meaning. But once the reality has changed beyond imagination, the previous worldview suddenly collapsed.

The multiverse hypothesis does provide us with a paradoxical comfort. It gives us reason to believe that the world we are here is not the only one, nor is it necessarily the most Ok. Is this really the case?

I haven’t set foot in most places in this world. The trajectory of my life is mainly centered on a large American city. Only the science exhibitions in the museum and the occasional aquarium tour can give me a glimpse of the vastness of the world. Although fascinating, these man-made products can never fully reproduce the magnificence of nature.

I found myself in a daydream recently: I want to dive into the seaweed forest of South Africa, or explore on the frozen slopes of the Arctic. The dripping ice caves that are shining by the light are the gateway to the new world. Entrance. Like many people, I hope that one day I can go on adventures and travel all over the world.

Then I will start to imagine how humans lived thousands of years ago. They were either born in the mountains or by the sea, and there is no way to understand other landscapes on the earth. At that time people didn’t know how to build ships, nor did theyAn airplane that can cut through clouds in a bright sky. Their place of birth determines their scope of life. Although the scenery may change with the seasons, people who have poppy fields in summer and watch bison wandering on the pastures will never see the clouds and mists of Asia looming.

The ancients only knew part of reality, just as scientists believed that contemporary people only knew part of reality.

Humans have already explored the earth and launched many probes into the depths of the solar system. Some probes even marched bravely toward the burning sun. But we all know that there are countless host stars and planets in the universe: whether it is an “ice world” or a gas giant planet, we cannot survive there because our bodies have not yet evolved to the point where they can adapt. We also don’t know anything about aliens. They may be dreams or nightmares. They can be imagined as benevolent creatures that help people on earth evolve rapidly, or they can kill people like numb.

The reality is: we live in a vast universe, where there may be extraterrestrial life, here is full of strange planets and unfathomable black holes. This is our home.

The people who are reading this article are all born on the earth, and they are very likely to die on the earth. The current level of technology is not enough to allow us to visit other planets at will like traveling around the world. We are even more like ancient people thousands of years ago than we thought. If the string theory is correct, then we not only lack spacecraft that can take humans to interstellar space, but also spacecraft that can go to other universes and dimensions, and reality is precisely composed of these universes and dimensions.

We are trapped on the earth, firmly believing that we are the only one in the universe.

But this is not necessarily the case. String theory tries to explain the forces and particles in the universe,It believes that the basic unit of the world is not atoms or quarks, but vibrating strings, which can unify the two most authoritative physical theories-quantum mechanics and relativity. We are made of atoms. There are protons and neutrons inside atoms, and quarks inside protons and neutrons. If string theory is correct, there are vibrating energy strings inside the quarks, the so-called “strings”. The vibration of the string is different, the particles produced are different.

The impact of string theory is difficult to predict. It is the most promising theory to unify the theory of physics in the contemporary era. With speculation, we can imagine what the higher dimensions look like. Our visual journey will start from a one-dimensional space.

One-dimensional space:

is a line. A line that connects points but has no width or depth.

Two-dimensional space:

is a flat figure with height and width.

Three-dimensional space:

The dimension of space in which we exist. We believe that the real world consists of three-dimensional space and time dimensions. Three-dimensional space has height, width and depth. We can intercept the cross section of the object.

Four-dimensional space:

Time dimension. Together with the three spatial dimensions, the time dimension constitutes our real world. The time dimension can change the three spatial dimensions. Now we have time and space.

The higher dimensions are imperceptible. They are huddled in an extremely tiny subatomic state, and we cannot detect them even if we try our best. Before the Big Bang, all dimensions were completely symmetrical. The four forces in the universe—electromagnetic force, gravity, weak nuclear force, and strong nuclear force—came together under extreme heat and pressure. When these conditions become unstable, the dimensions will split.

We can perceive the first four dimensions, but we cannot perceive the last six or seven dimensions. These higher dimensions are so small that the atoms of our world cannot enter.

Five-dimensional space:

It is a world similar to the earth, which originated from the Big Bang like the earth. But the world is also significantly different. Different selves will make different decisions and move on to different branches of the future. Five-dimensional space is full of possibilities.

Our earth and moon are on the left side of an earth-like world, and this world also has another small moon.

Six-dimensional space:

This dimension is a dimension that allows us to see all possible futures, presents and pasts(both originated in a time similar to the Big Bang) The new world.

Seven-dimensional space:

In this dimension, new universes may contain new natural forces and different laws of physics. The speed of light there is different from ours. These universes did not originate in the Big Bang.

Eight-dimensional space:

You can see the past and future of all universes. This dimension may extend infinitely.

A complete universe may have a lone star or a galaxy perfectly arranged in a ring. Others have only black holes or the Earth surrounded by 50 satellites.

Nine, ten, eleven-dimensional space:

All the laws of physics exist here, those that do not apply to the earth, and even laws that we have never heard of are also covered. Scientists believe that the eleventh dimension is already the highest dimension. Once this dimension is exceeded, the conditions will become unstable and the particles will naturally collapse back to the tenth or eleventh dimension. The tenth dimension can only introduce the time dimension. The string can only be at tenVibration in one dimension, and membranes can exist in eleven dimensions. Our universe is likely to be a membrane.

Everything came together to complete a dramatic orchestral performance. Everything and anything that may happen resides in the eleventh dimension. Every law of physics, every world, every starting point and ending point constitute an infinite universe that decorates the multiverse.

The mathematical theory involved in string theory is very complicated. We must remind ourselves that the possibilities extended from mathematics do not always determine reality.

Although string theory is very subtle, it is still somewhat complicated and incomplete. We don’t know whether humans will invent a technology that makes other universes within reach. Even if we give it all, it is difficult to understand. Humans have explored the earth for a long time, but they have not yet explored all corners, especially the dim deep ocean. Our children and grandchildren can spend countless hours exploring the multiverse and never stop. The universe we live in is so vast that we oftenConsider the possibility of interstellar travel. But this vastness cannot stop the pace of our inquiry.

String theory is so poetic because it tells us that dimensions are everywhere. Although we can’t see them, they still exist, even in everyone’s body, with everything we can think of.
