As of press time, 21 people have been killed in the Gansu Mountain Marathon, and the incident is under further investigation. Here, I express my condolences to the victims.

I have crossed the Qinling Mountains in severe winter, encountered snowstorms that have not been encountered in 25 years, and have experienced life and death; I have also hiked on the tundra of minus 42 degrees in the Arctic, and participated in long-distance roller skating and ice skating in the Netherlands. As well as field activities, I also watched long-distance cross-country races, marathons and bicycle races in many European countries. There are also many of my friends who often participate in field events all over the world.

Today, let me tell you about my experience about outdoor events, and based on my personal experience, I will talk about how to escape and save lives in the mountains and wilds. I hope I can help those in need, and I also hope that outdoor sports enthusiasts. , We must learn more about scientific outdoor survival knowledge, and we must do adequate self-protection and emergency preparation before engaging in certain dangerous outdoor sports.

European outdoor and wild game guarantee

Let’s first talk about outdoor sports where the “adventure coefficient” is considered satisfactory-the triathlon and marathon in Rotterdam. These two events are traditional events held annually in Rotterdam. I have been an audience many times.

Whether it is a triathlon or a marathon, the organizing committee will set up water replenishment points, food replenishment points, ambulances and medical personnel at every prescribed distance.

The Netherlands is a place where level 13 demon winds are often blown, especially Rotterdam guards the North Sea. Strong winds of level 5 and 6 are commonplace. Various open-air competitions are also easy to eat, but the safety of athletes has been the best throughout the game. The guarantee has not had an accident for many years.

Take the Rotterdam Marathon as an example. Every year there are more than 14,000 athletes from all over the world participating in it, and there are countless spectators. However, such a large-scale competition can always allow athletes and spectators to enjoy it. Behind this is Quite a lot of effort.

In addition to medical and dietary protection, the Rotterdam police willIn the early morning of the day, relevant roads were closed in advance to ease traffic. During the competition, a large number of police cars, mounted police, plainclothes police and civilian volunteers were scattered around, ready to respond to special situations.

Last year and this year, in order to effectively prevent the spread of the virus and protect the safety of athletes and spectators, what did the Rotterdam Triathlon Organizing Committee do?

The organizing committee racked their brains and chose the “virtual + reality” method!

In the triathlon, swimming is performed in the Olympic standard Zwemcentrum indoor swimming pool, while running and cycling are completed in this stadium by connecting treadmills and cycling machines through Zwift sports software.

Athletes compete on the machine, and the software synchronously displays the ranking and progress of the athletes, and broadcasts live broadcasts to more than 100 countries around the world in the form of reality and virtual images. It also virtualizes the street view of Rotterdam.

Let’s talk about the Dutch traditional life-destructive project-Roaming in 11 Cities on Ice(Dutch: Elfstedentocht). Said to be roaming, in fact, it is much harder than the Winter Olympics. It is the longest field ice project in the world, with a length of about 200 kilometers(most of them are in the wilderness).

The most brutal and difficult session was in 1963-when an ice storm hit, countless participants suffered frostbite, fractured limbs, snow blindness and eye damage, and 14,996 people retired!

The famous Dutch movie “The Hell of‘63”

This is the event here

A few years ago, I took part in taxiing on a 50-kilometer route. Since the thickness of the ice on many road sections did not meet the official standard (15cm thickness), the Netherlands did not organize official competitions. But there are many people who don’t care, go up purely wildly.

What I did not expect is that many volunteers from non-governmental organizations have spontaneously sorted out the ice, cordoned off dangerous areas, and established many temporary bases for supplementing hot drinks and food!

For outdoor and field activities, the whole people have such a high safety awareness and concept, which is very worth learning.

The photo I took at the time: Volunteers set up a cordon when there was a dangerous situation on the ice surface

Ice ice surface is not strong with warning signs

There are road signs for skaters on the roofs along the way

Part of the ice surface was cleaned by the machine

Let’s talk about the “Super Off-Road Endurance Tour of Mont Blanc” again. It is held in the Alps every year, passing through France, Italy and Switzerland. The race distance is about 166 kilometers, and the total elevation is about 9,600 meters. The terrain along the way is complex, including snow-capped mountains, lakes, canyons, alpine meadows, glaciers, and waterfalls. (One of the victims of this accident, cross-country running god-Liang Jing It is the runner-up of the 2019 Tour Mont Blanc Super Cross-Country Endurance Race).

Its securityAnd what is the rescue preparation like?

Only there are more than 50 huts for alpine rescue and supply, which are distributed throughout the route. Signs, signs, and route maps are available along the route, and the installation height and angle are accurate to centimeters. A large number of medical personnel, rescuers, cross-country ambulances, mountain motorcycles, and alpine search and rescue dogs are on standby everywhere, and helicopters are also available to check the status of athletes at any time. (The medical team dokever of the Tour of Mont Blanc super cross-country endurance race prepared 500 rescuers, 1,900 volunteers, 80 nurses, 35 doctors and 3 helicopters, one for each of France, Switzerland, and Italy.)

Look at other places again.

My friend in Australia is a kayaking event escort volunteer. When discussing the trail running accident, he said this:

“I participated in two Western Australia’s 25-kilometer strait-crossing swimming competitions in February and March this year. This is also an extreme sports competition. There are more than 1,200 participants, and the players have to swim 5-11 in the sea. Hours.

I participated in personally and discovered how rigorous the organization is, not to mention the safety aspect. In the February competition, the wind direction suddenly increased in the afternoon, and the wave height increased rapidly from more than one meter in the morning to four or five meters. So the organizers immediately called to stop and let all the players in the sea board quickly, four or five rescue boats. After the break, escort all participating boats to the finish line. “

Personally experience the experience of life and death summary

Tell me about the mountain climbing experience that I remember the most. I hope that our lessons can help others later.

On the second day of the Lunar New Year in 2001, I went to Qinling with three friends and several other mountaineering teams. A total of more than 40 people went to Qinling and crossed Taibai Mountain in the north-south direction. It was snowing all over northern China at that time, and I took the train from Tianjin to Shaanxi all the way was covered with snow. Before we climbed the mountain, Shaanxi had just experienced a snowstorm that it hadn’t experienced in 25 years.

The Qinling Taibai at that time did not have such a complete road as it is now. Our routes are basically mountain roads and small roads. How thick is the snow on the mountain? There is a lot of snow in the corners of the rocks. I, a 1 meter 76 person, can walk in directly…

The extremely dangerous trip took place on the second day. Along the way, everyone encountered frozen streams, knee-less snow, and steep and dangerous gravel slopes. Halfway through the two local porters who gave us the equipment, they all offered to go home because they had never encountered such a bad situation, but we even tried to stop them in time by even adding money.

The goal of the day was a concrete campsite (no one) at an altitude of about 3,500 meters. However, the wind and snow made our actions extremely difficult. In the evening, the large army was out of touch. One of the teams is responsible for uniformly assigning the equipment to the team: some only carry tents, and some only carry sleeping bags. So in the case of breaking up, many people don’t have life-saving camping equipment.

As night falls, the temperature is getting lower and lower(more than 20 degrees below minus 20 degrees), the wind is getting stronger and stronger, my trouser legs are freezing It was so hard that it touched like wooden boards, and the chocolate was stuffed between the teeth without melting when it was put in the mouth.

Although I am fully equipped, I have to take care of people who do not have camping equipment to arrive at the campsite. If they run out of energy and sleep in the snow, there is no chance of survival.

The call on the walkie-talkie was also not smooth at the time, so that after the distance was extended, the front and rear teams used flashlights to communicate with each other.

At night, everyone not only has to deal with the harsh natural environment, but also beware of cute animals such as bears, wolves, and leopards that may come across. However, the deadliest animal in the Qinling Mountains is the takin. A senior in Beijing who came with him was hit by a takin and his thigh muscles atrophy. What’s more terrible is that the footprints of takin and antelope left in the deep snow are similar to those of human beings, and there is a danger of falling off a cliff if they follow their footprints.

Many people have exhausted their physical strength late at night. I had cramps twice, but my physical strength broke through after the cramps. In fact, relative to the physical limit, teammates must encourage each other spiritually, and never let anyone fall to the ground to “rest”.

At around 1:00 in the morning, the teammates who were the first to climb to the campsite sent two porters back to meet us. If the camp was not found, there would be frostbite and even death that night.

I also dared to remove the reinstallation and tell others to do the same when I knew that I had found the camp. Go to the station to save your life, and then come back to pick up equipment the next day. But I left the ice axe and bayonet on me.

The bayonet is used for outdoor survival, and the ice axe can deal with wolves and leopards in case of emergence.(During the climb that morning, I saw snow There are very clear leopard footprints in the ground, and I saw a wolf not long after entering the mountain the day before).

Most people who are exhausted do not arrive at the camp until after two o’clock in the morning. We found Hans beer frozen into icy in the cement room, only the bottleneck was still a little liquid. It’s not that it won’t freeze, it’s caused by pressure. When we opened the bottle, the liquid burst out like an explosion, and instantly froze into a mushroom cloud-like ice lumps. It can be seen what the temperature was like at that time!

I have summarized a few essential knowledge about life-saving activities in the wild:

Mountains are different from cities. The temperature difference between day and night is large and the weather changes rapidly. The bottom line of insulation clothing should be complete. (at least fleece, windbreaker);

High-quality chocolate is a must, chocolate is the real life-saving food;

Ning to equip a lot.

About the third point, I have a mountain friend who said:

“One year when I went to Gannan, when Baoyu was around the lake in Nian Baoyu, everyone’s shoes were wet. Then when I took out spare shoes from the trunk, the people who went with me wanted to come up and beat me… …”

This reminds me of the Qinling Mountain above. After we escaped, we were born on a campfire to bake clothes and shoes. I froze me into ice-like high-top hiking shoes and set them on the fire. Then I drank Erguotou with others. (Said it was a drink, but it was frozen into shaved ice. You can only use a spoon to toast). Unexpectedly, the shoes were baked. Fortunately, I brought a pair of short spare hiking shoes, noI stepped on deep snow and ice from an altitude of more than 3,500 meters. Do I still need my feet?

Let’s talk about it at last

For those who say that they have conquered the mountain after reaching the top, and who say that they have conquered nature after a successful crossing, I can only hehe. They misled many people.

The climber can successfully climb to the top and descend, but the nature of the mountain frees him/her, that’s all. Respect and serious treatment of the lives of oneself and teammates, and respect and awe of the mountains and nature are the attitudes that outdoor athletes should have.
