Developers are the backbone of the mobile Internet ecosystem. They are tenacious and courageous. They adhere to the correct values and believe that innovation can create value.

AppSo is the same. We hope that those developers with valuable quality and their products with flash points can be seen by more people.

AppSo invites outstanding developers every week to chat with them about interesting and moving stories in the process of product development.

AppSo and everyone have recommended Picsew many times. As a “screenshot shell” application, it directly solves the problem of inconvenient and unsightly screenshots on iOS. It has become a must-have app for many people.

Picsew has recently announced that it is free, and customers who have previously purchased it can upgrade directly!

What makes Picsew ’s features different from users when it becomes a free app? Today we invited the developer Sugar and let him talk to us about the development of this app.

Meet Sugar

I’m Sugar. I started Picsew just because I was not used to other people’s apps. I didn’t expect that there would be so many people like it. I hope to bring you more high-quality apps in the future.

Picsew has recently become a free application. What free features can users use?

Free users can use all functions at this stage. The only difference from paid users is that the clarity is limited.

What is the reason for this?

Because when I first thought about the paid features of Picsew, I had two ideas. One is the traditional approach of designing according to the function points. A certain number of features are limited to paid features. Another idea is not to limit the function, but to limit its sharing. This way you can have a complete editing experience, but if you want to share, you still have to pay first.

I’m currently using the second method, but I’m limiting the clarity. Because I want users to experience the use of Picsew, including the experience of plug-ins, and even the experience after saving, and then decide whether to pay for it, I did not make any restrictions before saving. Of course, this is only an experimental method at present. If the effect is not good, I may return to the traditional method.

Can you introduce Picsew in one sentence?

Not only can you spell it, but you want to spell it well, please use Picsew.

Why thought of developing Picsew?

Because this is my own need, at the beginning I wanted to make a longer screenshot tool that is better than Tailor. Sometimes Tailor will make mistakes and cannot be adjusted again. This gave me the opportunity to make an app that replaces it. Idea.

What is the biggest challenge encountered during development?

The biggest challenge is the automatic stitching algorithm, because there are many types of screenshots, and taking into account the speed of stitching for all types of screenshots, there are certain challenges.

How does Picsew keep the picture quality?

Strictly speaking, Picsew is not completely uncompressed, but not as much as possible.

Because Picsew always uses the largest available memory to process pictures, the more memory you have, the less your photos will be compressed. And when the memory is large enough, I will also give priority to the original color depth of the picture, that is, a 16-bit color map. After stitching, it can still be 16-bit color, which can keep the color of your stitched picture as much as possible. change.

Have you ever thought about making the first iPhone or special case?

I thought about a special case, but I hope it can become a long-term operation project, so it should not be directly included in the existing case list. Otherwise the list of shells is getting longer.

How did you establish a good user feedback mechanism and task management?

Currently, user feedback is mainly collected through email and Weibo, which is not a particularly effective mechanism. Task management mainly uses Bear to write some to-do lists, and there are no special tools. Because you are alone, this is enough.

How did Picsew picture watermark and custom status bar function come to mind?

Image watermarking should be a fairly common feature. I know that some of my users are photographers. I think that the watermarks they have designed are definitely better than my simple text.

Custom status bar is an extension of cleaning status bar. Because some people think that fixing a time is not good and want to modify it, so I have provided such an opportunity.

How to ensure that they can be loved by users?

There is no guarantee, after all, carrots and vegetables have their own love. But I still try to follow user feedback as much as possibleTo improve functionality.

What is your feedback on this product? Are there any interesting stories you can share with AppSo?

User feedback is mainly that the current features are sufficient, but there are some details that can be optimized.

There is a little story to share. There was a user who asked me why the status bar time picture (9:41) disappeared after I updated a certain version. It turned out that he had been removing the picture in my app to completely remove the status bar. So this time I customized the status bar and added the option to completely remove the status bar, because he thought of it.

What is your long-term plan for Picsew?

There are some long-term plans, mainly to improve efficiency, such as batch processing and Siri shortcuts, more detailed export settings, etc. These are the clearer goals now.

What opportunities and challenges do you think currently exist in the App market?

Now many iOS users are switching to the Android camp. As a developer, it is no longer easy to develop an excellent iOS app, and it is even more difficult to develop two platforms at the same time.

For our independent iOS developers, the Android market is a great opportunity, and if you have the chance, you should go in and take a look.

There are many different types of apps now. Basically everyone has done it. It is becoming more and more difficult to find a category that no one has done. And now it ’s difficult to make a new app to promote. Finding your own strategy is very important.

How to judge the combination of your strengths and the general trend of the industry?

Frankly, I don’t know. Picsew has nothing to do with the general trend of the industry. I don’t think that every app can be combined with the general trend of the industry.

When developing a product, under what circumstances can you be sure the direction is right?

The idea of making niche products is different from that of mass products, and the ideas of paying and free of charge are also different. But no matter what, you definitely need a data analysis background to set a suitable quantitative index, the closer the direction is, the more correct the direction.

What are the usual ways to get inspiration?

Visit Dribbble, visit the App Store, and check out Twitter. But in fact, more often, the ideas come from user feedback, or I think of it when I’m lying in bed.

What are your daily habits?

There is nothing to be proud of. I ’m a lazy and habitual person. Basically, I do n’t go out as long as I do n’t have to, but I still maintain my weight very well, probably because I ’ve never Eat rice, and I rarely eat snacks.

Apart from development work, what do you like best?

It’s mainly for taking pictures of my daughter. I will watch some very old TV shows when I have time.

Which hardware / software do you usually use?

There are many. I only recommend a Git GUI tool called Fork for developers, which is free, but very easy to use.

Can you talk about your favorite app?

I want to talk about the mobile version of Lightroom. Many people just use it as a P map app, but it also has a built-in camera function, and the function is not worse than those dozens of manual camera apps. The direct shot is DNG format, also known as RAW format, can be edited directly in Lightroom. In addition to shooting RAW, it can also directlyTake depth of field, long exposure, HDR, and it’s all free!

Can you share the first screen of your mobile phone with us and see your favorite apps?

My phone has a lot of red dots on the first screen, which is particularly messy and rude.
