The Office of the Cyberspace Administration of China announced that it will conduct a special and centralized rectification of mobile browsers. Eight influential mobile browsers including UC, QQ, Huawei, 360, Sogou, Xiaomi, vivo, and OPPO have been included in the first batch of key rectifications range.

This special rectification focused on solving three prominent problems:

  • The first is to publish all kinds of Internet news information collected and edited by “self-media” in violation of regulations, such as distorting and interpreting economic and people’s livelihood policies, spreading “gossip”, spreading rumors and information, frying out old news and fabricating “news”;

  • The second is to publish “headline party” articles, such as malicious exaggeration, “singing bad news”, “selling miserable”, imposing hype, etc.;

  • The third is to publish bad information that violates the core values ​​of socialism, such as spreading vulgar pictures and videos, hyping celebrity gossip privacy, and entertainment gossip.

At the same time, special rectification and supervision have put forward clear rectification requirements and standards for mobile browsers, including not publishing Internet news information compiled by “self-media” in violation of regulations, and not pushing all kinds of information published by “self-media”. Use gimmick titles such as out of context, false exaggeration, offensive insults, sensationalism, etc. to hype hot and sensitive topics. Do not post out of nothing, stir up old news, patch together editing, Catch the windWaitTruly information, do not publish vulgar, bloody and other bad information, etc.

The Office of the Cyberspace Administration of China stated that from October 27th to November 9th, all mobile browsers will conduct in-depth self-examination and rectification against the list of questions, comprehensively clean up illegal information, and strictly control “we media” accounts. At 8 o’clock on the 27th, the 8 mobile browsers to be rectified should post self-examination and rectification announcements in a prominent position on the first screen and push all users to accept social supervision. After the self-inspection and rectification, mobile browsers that still have outstanding problems after the rectification will be dealt with severely until they are banned.
