Market rumors that Geely will establish a brand new electric vehicle company this year have been officially confirmed.
Recently, Li Shufu clearly pointed out in the 4D internal mobilization letter that Geely has formed “two blue Geely action plans”, among which the plan to establish a new pure electric vehicle company is underway.
Specifically, one of the two blue Geely action plans focuses on energy-saving and new energy vehicles, 90% are new energy hybrid vehicles, and about 10% are traditional energy-saving small-displacement vehicles; the second is pure Electric smart cars, establish a brand-new pure electric vehicle company, and participate in the competition in the smart pure electric vehicle market.
According to previous media reports, the management of the new company will be based on the models produced by its SEA vast intelligent evolution experience architecture, and will also be responsible for marketing its Lynk & Co brand SEA electric vehicles.
The new company’s organizational structure, sales and operating models will be built by independent teams, and plans to open a showroom in the city center, some of the showrooms will cooperate with dealers, and some will be directly managed so that they will directly control pricing and inventory.
Market analysis stated that Geely’s move means a formal strategic upgrade of electric vehicles, this is different from the industry practice of most automakers marketing and selling traditional fuel vehicles and electric vehicles together.
In fact, as early as 2015, Geely launched the “Blue Geely Operation” to focus on the new energy market, but the results were not satisfactory.
At that time, Geely put forward the goal of the “Five-Year Plan” that by 2020, sales of new energy vehicles accounted for more than 90% of Geely’s overall sales.
However, public data shows that in 2020, Geely’s cumulative sales will be about 1.32 million vehicles. The total sales of new energy and electrified products such as Geometry A, Geometry C, Emgrand EV, Emgrand GSe in the new energy field are about 68,000 vehicles. Not only was it down 39.8% year-on-year, it also accounted for only about 5%.
