Preface

In the past year or two, the official media has intensively criticized the overtime culture.

Shenzhen has even played its role as a pioneering demonstration zone for socialism. It has introduced the country’s first “Shenzhen Special Economic Zone Health Regulations” that restricts overtime work, and implemented a mandatory vacation system, which will be officially implemented on January 1, 2021.

Why doesn’t society advocate overtime now?

To understand why overtime is not advocated now, we have to answer a question first: Why did we not oppose overtime before, and even proud of overtime?

01

Why used to be proud of working overtime

Among the “100 People Who Touched China Since the Founding of New China” on September 10, 2009, there is a labor hero Wang Jinxi.

He was the first batch of oil drilling workers in New China. He led the 1205 drilling team to start a business arduously and drilled the first oil well in Daqing, making great contributions to my country’s oil industry.

During the development of the Daqing Oilfield, he shouted the slogan “I would rather live less than 20 years, and desperately want to win the big oilfield”, known as the “Iron Man King Jinxi”.

He also did this personally:

Without sleeping for 3 days and 3 nights, the man carried a 38-meter-high, 22-ton drilling rig to the oil field on his shoulders.

Without sleeping for 5 days and 5 nights, Daqing’s first oil injection well was drilled.

Hundreds of kilograms of drill pipe hurt his leg, and he continued to command drilling with crutches.

At 23:42 on November 15, 1970, Wang Jinxi unfortunately passed away due to ineffective treatment of gastric cancer. He was 47 years old and may have lost more than 20 years of life.

Wang Jinxi’s deeds have been widely publicized. In 1964, the whole country was called to “industry to learn from Daqing.”

So in the futureThose who continue to work overtime are most likely the pillars of the country and the nation. The results of their overtime work largely determine whether we can enjoy a happy life of working 30 hours a week and earning an average annual income of US$50,000.

So, let’s not interfere with those who will work overtime in the future.

3) Short working hours means that your work efficiency and the value created per unit time will also be improved

Everyone is competing in a fair environment where overtime is not allowed, so you can no longer just rely on working harder to maintain a competitive advantage, but to increase your value per unit of time.

This requires that your core abilities such as thinking ability and learning ability must be upgraded to a new level.

Finally, I wish you an early identification of your pursuit. It is also happy not to work overtime, and happy to work overtime.
