Music value requires judgment in different dimensions.

Editor’s note: This article is from WeChat public account “New Music Industry Watch” (ID: takoff), the author of the new child.

After a wave of whim, I would like to know about the scores of Douban’s records, so I tried to dig up the score data, and there are some gains. I would like to share with you.

“Douban score” can be said to be a big topic in recent years. However, this topic is mainly focused on film and television, and it seems to have nothing to do with music.

However, music has played an important role in the history of Douban.

In 2005, after Douban went online, users added a large number of album entries, participated in the scoring and discussion, and became one of the cornerstones of the rapid development of Douban. In 2008, Douban launched a community of musicians, and a large number of independent musicians were born, adding to the “spiritual corner” of Douban.

In the past, I added album entries to Douban, scored records, set up a funeral in Douban, and organized a tour with Douban to become a generation of independent musicians and fans.

Today, music seems to be no longer important for Douban. Douban music is divided, and the city is making a lot of moves. Douban records are getting less and less…

In stark contrast, Dougou’s film and television scores have been particularly active in recent years. In the film and television market, Douban score has become the focus of PR, and even has led to industry siege, but it also proves the importance of “Douban score” for the industry.

Douban users use their own “sense” to construct a data dimension different from other platforms and social networks. Helpless, music has become a corner in the corner of this data system.

Why is the reason? We may be able to find some relevant clues from the scores.

What kind of singer do you like?

Before studying industry trends, let’s take a look at what kind of singers Douban users like.

In the Douban score, how does music become a corner in the corner?

The picture above is the 30 studio albums I have compiled with the highest score.

As you can see from the picture, there are 22 albums, accounting for 73% of the total. 14 rock albums, totalingIs the year a watershed?

Douban users not only experienced the arrival of the “singing era”, but also witnessed the changes of an era

Why does music become a corner in the corner on the Douban score?

Why does music become a corner in the corner of Douban?

The above two tables are the comparison of the scores of the two decades from the 21st century to the present. From the table, it can be seen that the 10 albums with the highest scores in the first decade of the 21st century are much higher than the past. 8 years.

2011 seems to be a watershed. In 2011, there were 7 albums ranked in the top ten in the 2010s. Among them, Stefanie Sun’s “It’s Time” can be ranked 7th in history. After 2011, the rating of Douban Records has dropped sharply. The highest score of Song Dongye is only More than 30,000.

Personally believe that this trend may be related to three factors:

1. The user activity of Douban itself is decreasing

On August 17, 2012, Douban announced an operational data. “The monthly coverage of independent users (UV) has exceeded 100 million, and the average daily PV is 160 million, nearly double the same period last year.” In addition, in November 2013, Douban also published a data report, “In the second and third quarters of 2013, the number of unique visitors to Douban reached 200 million, which was doubled compared with the same period of last year. As of 2013 9 Month, the number of registered users of Douban has exceeded 75 million, and the average daily PV is 210 million.

I didn’t find new data, but from the related reports and articles I reviewed, it is widely believed that 2012 is the peak period of Douban development. There is a saying that in 2014, the daily PV of Douban dropped to about 30 million, but I did not find a reliable data source, for reference only.

Because of the lack of data reference, there is only one possibility to judge here: the last five years of the 2000s is the period of rapid development of Douban, and the users may be relatively active, so the albums issued during that period have higher scores. Since the 2010s, the popularity of Douban users has declined, which has led to a decline in the number of albums.

However, while the score of the album has dropped, the Douban film score has become a hot spot in recent years. This also seems to indicate that the amount of ratings is related to the market.

Why does music become a corner in the corner of Douban?

As you can see from the above picture, the film score is basically in sync with the market. Among the top 20 Chinese movies with the highest score, 10 are released in 2018 and 2019, which is currently being shown. 吒” ranked sixth.

From the perspective of film ratings, the market supply will reflect the score: because the market is active and can provide users with higher attention, the user rating will be high.

Although a film has more topicality and attention than a record, it is relatively easy to trigger users to participate in the score, but the music market lacks high-profile work in recent years, which is also an indisputable fact.

2. The music market is in a downturn, and there is a lack of works in the market that attract users’ ratings

Since the 21st century, the music market has continued to decline, and it has only begun to show signs of recovery in 2015. (See the picture below)

Why does music become a corner in the corner of Douban?

The market downturn is reflected in the market. From the generations of Jay Chou, Stefanie Sun, and Mayday, there has been a fault in the Chinese music scene, and there has been no new stimulus in the market for a long time.

Comparing the top ten scores of the two decades, we will see that the records and artists who entered the 2000s were much higher in popularity and songs than in the 2010s.

In fact, from Jay Chou, Stefanie Sun (debut in 2000, according to the first album) to Lin Yijia and Xiao Jingteng (debut in 2008), the 2000s can be said to be the last star-making era of the Hong Kong and Taiwan recording industry.

In the 2000s, Jay Chou, Mayday, Chen Yu and so on all had sung songs. The works and artists who were included in the 2010s were much less famous and sung. Although Chen Ge and Song Dongye also have widely sung works, the popularity and industry status of the public are difficult to compare with Jay Chou or Mayday in the 2000s.

In the past five years (2014-2018), only Chen Ji’s “Ruyi” (2015) scored more than 30,000. In addition, I compiled 20 Chinese albums with the highest Douban score in 2008-2018. Only the “Ugly Slave” (2016), which does not have a party in Caodong, is included.

Why does music become a corner in the corner of Douban?

Zhou Jielun and Chen Yu are no longer favored by the new generation of Douban users. The younger generation of singers are not able to reach the height of the older generation in terms of singing and fame, reflecting a certain degree of shrinkage in the rating.

3. The music market is hot, not in the comfort zone of Douban users

Observation scores, it can be said that the tastes of Douban users have not changed much in the past 20 years. Singing singers, rock and folk songs are still the “comfort zone” for Douban users, but the industry has undergone earth-shaking changes.

The traditional star-making model of the Hong Kong and Taiwan recording industry is aimed at the national market. Whether it is an idol or a singer, the songs are expected to have a greater singer’s ability to use the influence of the traditional media to the masses.

With the decline of the Hong Kong and Taiwan recording industry, the Internet channel has become the initiative of communication, the music market has begun to become subdivided, the target market for music products has become more and more precise, and the layering has become more and more obvious.

In recent years, the popular albums on the market basically have their own set of listeners. The traffic singers are facing the rice circle, the rapper is facing the Hip-Hop circle, and the vibrating song is positioned as the vibrato user. These popular circles are not in the “comfort zone” of Douban users.

In the end, it is reflected in the Douban score, which is the “separation” between users and the market. Popular works on the market, especially rap albums and EDM albums, are less popular with Douban users and have a lower rating.

In the Douban score, how does music become a corner in the corner?

Only from the scoring data involved in this article, the taste preference of Douban users is quite obvious. Moreover, in the development of the past ten years, this taste has not changed significantly, and it has been strengthened to some extent. Douban user’s layer features.
