From June 19th to 25th, Eastern Time, the world’s top international conference in the field of artificial intelligence and computer vision, CVPR 2021 (Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, International Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition) was held. With the continuous improvement of original technology innovation and the support of SenseCore SenseCore AI’s large-scale device, SenseTime and its joint laboratory led the CVPR 2021 again with 66 selected papers.

Shangtang and joint laboratories have selected 66 CVPR papers, which not only include breakthroughs in cutting-edge basic research in various fields, but also directly address the pain points of industry applications. For example, the paper “NeuralRecon: Real-Time Coherent 3D Reconstruction From Monocular Video”, which was selected as the best paper candidate list, first proposed a monocular real-time scene 3D reconstruction system based on neural network.

No need for expensive and high-power depth sensors, ordinary smart phones can have 3D reconstruction capabilities. This technology is also the core algorithm module of the SenseMARS Mars mixed augmented reality platform .

Shangtang’s selection of CVPR papers this year can promote the application of a wide range of applications, including solving the problem of graphics compression in massive image storage scenarios, and greatly reducing the training algorithm of autonomous driving lidar Adapt to new scenarios, solve target detection performance problems under the long-tail data distribution of smart cities, etc.

Since 2016, Shangtang and the joint laboratory CVPR have accepted nearly 300 papers. In addition, SenseTime actively promotes the transformation of underlying technology research results into high-value patent applications, builds an efficient patent protection network, and enhances its competitiveness and structure in the market. SenseTime has doubled the number of patent applications for 6 consecutive years, and has accumulated more than 7,500 global patent assets, which are widely distributed in more than 20 countries and regions. Among them, more than 1,200 authorized patents and invention patent assets account for more than 90%.

In addition to papers, the annual challenge is also the focus of CVPR. NTIRE (New Trends in Image Restoration and Enhancement) is the most influential international competition in the field of image and video restoration and enhancement. The SenseTime-Nanyang Technological Joint Laboratory (S-Lab) team won three championships in the CVPR 2021 NTIRE Video Understanding Challenge in one fell swoop, including video super-resolution and heavily compressed video quality enhancementStrong (fixed quantization parameters, fidelity) and heavily compressed video quality enhancement (fixed bit rate, fidelity) track.

ActivityNet Challenge is the largest and most influential technology competition in the field of video behavior understanding. It has been successfully held for five sessions. The SenseTime Research Institute team won CVPR 2021 ActivityNet time series motion detection task weakly supervised learning track champion.

Lin Dahua, co-founder of Shangtang Technology and Director of the Chinese University of Hong Kong-Shangtang Technology Joint Laboratory, summarized the three innovative elements of Shangtang. Lin Dahua believes that one is research talents with innovative spirit; the other is artificial intelligence research infrastructure to help researchers effectively shorten the cycle of innovation verification. For example, the SenseCore Shangtang AI large device provides sufficient computing power to quickly perform experimental trial and error.

The third is the soil of valuable issues. SenseTime connects artificial intelligence technology and a wide range of application fields, which provides a rich soil for generating new academic problems. These problems have brought Shangtang research opportunities and drove technological innovation.
