The golden age of direct animation is destined to end, but fortunately it has written a splendid history.
In 1934, Norman Mclaren, who was studying at the Glasgow School of Art, found a 16mm film projector in the school warehouse. McLaren, who had no camera at the time, found some discarded film, scraped off the emulsion layer and drew the film directly on the film. In the future, painting directly on the film became the symbol of the animator. McLaren used this method to create dozens of animations in his life. There are joyful and lively sports juggling like Black Bird (La Merle), as well as abstract image experiments like Begone Dull Care.
