The experiment was conducted on September 26th. The astronauts carried the bovine cells on the earth into space and then used the 3D bioprinter to grow living cells into small-scale muscle tissue.

This process mimics the cowThe natural process of regeneration of muscle tissue in the body, so the texture and structure of artificial beef is the same as real beef.

They broke through the extreme controlled microgravity environment, cultivating small muscle tissue “planted” in the laboratory with minimal resources.

In December last year, Aleph Farms produced prototype “barrel steaks” from the lab’s cells in two weeks, but they acknowledged that the taste of “steak” still needs improvement.

Now, they are working with the Russian company 3D Bioprinting Solutions to develop the technology, not only for astronauts, but also for space hamburgers and other meat products for everyone in the space station.
