Compared with the past few years, the global PC market has experienced considerable year-on-year growth. Shipments in the third quarter of 2019 increased by 4.7% to 70.9 million units. According to Canalys, this is the best performance since the first quarter of 2012, when shipments increased by 5.4%.

Despite the good market performance, PC shipments grew mainly from other suppliers, not Apple. Canalys estimates that Apple shipped 5.376 million Macs and MacBooks in the third quarter, up 1.5% from the 5.299 million units shipped in the third quarter of 2019.

The best performing Lenovo shipments increased by 7.2% to 17.3 million units, accounting for 24.4.% market share. Dell’s shipments increased by 5.2% year-on-year to 12 million units, and its market share remained at 17%.

In the US, factors such as Windows 10 upgrades and seasonal stocks have helped increase shipments. But in some volatile sales areas, companies have to take “precautions” to prevent shipment disruptions.

In particular, Apple’s shipments in the United States increased by 3% year-on-year, making it and HP’s growth faster than the market average. However, the uncertainty caused by Brexit in Europe has limited demand, and Apple is the only supplier among the top five in the list that has not seen shipment growth in the region.

Although Apple is not ahead of the market in terms of shipments, it ranks first in terms of US consumer satisfaction.
