Editor’s note: This article is from WeChat public account “Shili Village” (ID: shilipxl ), the author Tianya lives in Shili Village.

With the experience of everyone walking south and north, do you think that hotel rooms can be used in addition to rest?

I hope that everyone with this kind of thinking, come with me to see the business hidden in the hotel rooms.

This article is mainly about the observations in my personal travel life, and I share some of the projects I have seen. See how entrepreneurs can find new ways to find business possibilities in hotel rooms.

I hope to bring some inspiration to everyone, not just in this industry.

01. Overview of the big accommodation industry

In order to give everyone a basic understanding, let’s first look at some data about Chinese hotel rooms.

Because it is not a practitioner, these data are mainly from the network and are for reference only.

a, overall size

Based on the latest data from Yingpan Consulting in November 2018:

As of the end of 2017, the total number of facilities in the national accommodation industry was 457,834, with a total room size of 16,770,394.

Among them, there are 317,476 hotel-type accommodation facilities, the total number of guest rooms is 15,480,813, and the average room size is about 49.

There are 140,358 other accommodation facilities, with a total of 1,298,581 rooms, and the average room size is about 9.

b, hotel accommodation grades

From the accommodation grade, it can be divided into four grades: economy (two stars and below), mid-range (three-star), high-grade (four-star), and luxury (five-star).

The number of houses and the number of rooms are: 277,000 in economy and 10.39 million in rooms. There are about 23,000 mid-range models and the number of rooms is about 2.14 million. The high-end model is about 12,000, and the number of rooms is about 1.81 million. About 40,000 luxury modelsThe number of rooms is approximately 1.14 million.

c, China Hotel Chain

Another data source, “China’s hotel chain brand rankings in 2018”, according to the list: the top 30 hotel chains have more than 1 million rooms, of which 6 hotels have more than 10 rooms. Ten thousand.

d, personal consumption

According to McKinsey, the number of middle class in China will increase from 174 million in 2012 to 271 million in 2022.

In the future, the potential consumer groups in China’s mid-end hotel market are expected to continue to grow at an annual rate of around 10%.

Also with the development of the economy, China’s total tourism revenue and total number of people have grown at a rate of 10% per year, of which the total growth rate of business travel has also reached 9%.

According to the basic situation of the tourism market announced by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2018, the number of domestic tourists in China was 5,539 million in 2018, an increase of 10.8% over the same period of the previous year. The total tourism revenue for the year was 5.97 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase. 10.5%.

In addition, the average price of star-rated hotels in the fourth quarter of 2018 was 356.34 yuan/night, up 1.17% year-on-year; the average occupancy rate was 57.43%; the income per room available for rent was 204.63 yuan/night, The increase was 0.66%.

02. Multiple business in the room

After reading the data, I shared the business cases I have seen in the room with 8 of them, but mainly based on mid-range and budget hotels.

1, shared hanger

I believe that no matter whether it is traveling or business trip, many people have the need to change clothes. But the headache is that it is more troublesome for the hotel to change clothes.

Not only because the hotel washes clothes expensive, but the general star hotels do not provide this service. Even if there is, the service is not available late, or if there is something the next day, it may not be able to do it.

So many people are very helpless. When traveling, they must have large and small storage bags, and take dirty clothes to take them home.

I have traveled to SichuanYang spent a week washing clothes at the hotel. There is no place to dry and it is easy to produce sweat. Many times, it can only be blown dry by means of a hair dryer. I believe many people should have had such an experience.

So, entrepreneurs have discovered the opportunity to develop a shared hanger that can be dried and has UV sterilization.

a, function introduction: It is about the same size as a general hanger, foldable and has a load capacity of 5KG. Plug and play, there are hot and cold air selection, the temperature will automatically power off when the temperature exceeds 60 °, the air outlet will produce 30 decibel sound, and the sleep mode is optional.

b, charging method: Mainly use the deposit-free + duration fee, which can be in minutes or hours. Generally, it costs 5 yuan in 30 minutes and 15 yuan in 2 hours. Compared to finding a dry cleaner to wash clothes, it is still relatively cheap, the key is very convenient.

Moreover, the cost of sharing hangers is very cheap and should be within 30 yuan. Because I queried on 1688, the similar product quantity is only 59 yuan, which can be returned as long as two or three users use it.

The scenes used by shared hangers are not only hotel rooms, but also in hospitals, gyms, baths, clubs, etc.

2, smart projector (shared theater)

The TV in the hotel is actually quite tasteless, not only the screen is small, but there is nothing to see.

Many people who stay in budget hotels know that the TV equipment in these hotels is relatively old, and some TVs are even almost 10 years old.

And now with the popularity of mobile phones and tablets, the opening rate of TV has dropped a lot.

But in the hotel, there will still be people watching TV. How do you make this screen attract tenants?

Figure: In-room projector

When I was on a business trip in Ma On Shan, I stayed at a local express hotel and the hotel chargedThe camera is directly replaced with a projector.

To be honest, the big screen projection looks really cool compared to the experience of watching TV on business trips. For tenants who like to watch movies, watch football, and watch basketball, it is a private theater.

Moreover, the projected splash screen also found the advertisement of Vipshop. By the way, the only product will be the three-fourth five-line online version of Outlets.

Later, I have experienced contact with other small cities in the business, and the merchants said that since the replacement, the feedback from the tenants is very good.

At present, sharing projections, I know there are two business models. One is to buy equipment directly, and the other is to rent and sell.

★Take a rental sale as an example: Merchants generally accept this form. Each machine is used in a hotel room. The merchant needs to pay the platform 5 yuan usage fee, 2500 yuan cap.

After the 70% occupancy rate of the hotel is installed, the cost can be recovered in about 3 months, and the hotel with 45% occupancy rate will take 10 months to recover the cost. Follow-up hotels can also enjoy advertising revenue, online paid video on demand, and so on.

In addition, according to my understanding, there are still some entrepreneurs who are making more entertaining changes to the screen, such as wireless projection, VR movies, game interaction, teleconferencing, and so on.

From the perspective of selling machines, you should be able to make a small profit.

But if you sell ads, this has high requirements for the number of devices and the number of people covered. So, is this a good business?

3, Unattended Cabinet

In the hotel rooms, there are usually two free bottles of mineral water, and other snacks are available at an additional charge.

And there are fewer snacks in the room, usually only instant noodles and potato chips. If you want something else, you need to call the hotel front desk for delivery or takeaway.

There are not only a few things in the room, but also the replacement is not timely, and there is a possibility of expiration. Various verification checks are also required in the checkout room, and some disputes may arise.

Especially some family planning supplies, the front desk must be confirmed with the customer in person at the time of settlement, very embarrassing.

So some people want to move unmanned containers into hotel rooms, offering a variety of snacks, drinks, and family planning supplies.

The tenant needs to scan the code to pay, update the delivery daily, no need to check the front desk, and the hotel adopts the sales sharing mode.
