Qualcomm President Cristiano Amon has repeatedly emphasized that 5G will bring new opportunities to Qualcomm and the entire industry.

In the early morning of December 4, Beijing time, Qualcomm announced the launch of two new 5G Snapdragon chips at the “Snapdragon Annual Technology Summit” held in Hawaii, USA, which are the flagship Snapdragon 865 chip and Snapdragon. Dragon X55 modem and RF system; and Snapdragon 765 / 765G chip with integrated 5G baseband.

These two products will play a key role in Qualcomm’s 5G layout. In Qualcomm’s product layout, the “8 series” is targeted at flagship mobile phone products, and the “7 series” is targeted at mid-to-high-end mobile phones. With the launch of Qualcomm Snapdragon 865/765 / 765G, it means that the chip giant officially classifies the 5G chip platform as its mainstream development level.

At the meeting, a number of executives including Xiaomi, OPPO, Motorola, etc. also came to the platform of Qualcomm Snapdragon 865. Among them, Lin Bin, vice chairman of the Xiaomi Group and president of the mobile phone department, announced that the upcoming release of Mi 10 (Mi 10) will become one of the first terminal mobile phones equipped with the Snapdragon 865 chip.

In terms of specific technical configuration, the Snapdragon 865 is equipped with an X55 5G baseband and uses a fifth-generation AI engine. The AI performance reaches 15 TOPS, which is twice that of the previous generation 855 chip. It also supports 8K30 frames / 64MP 4K video shooting.

The adaptation of 5G network is the highlight of Qualcomm 865. Previously, Qualcomm for its Xiaomi, OPPO and other manufacturers mainly launched the Snapdragon 855, 855+ chip external X50 5G baseband solution. As the 855 series 5G mobile phones only support the NSA mode, according to the regulations of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the separate NSA mode is from 2020 Cannot access the Internet in China from January 1,

Therefore, it is imminent for Qualcomm to launch the Snapdragon 865 which is compatible with SA / NSA mode. Today, the Snapdragon 865 supports mmWave, Sub 6 GHz, CA, DSS, Independent (SA) and Non-Independent Networking (NSA). The Snapdragon 765 / 765G integrates the X52 5G baseband. Like the 865, it supports 5G dual-mode, as well as millimeter wave and Sub-6. The downlink rate can reach 3.7Gbps. This is also the first Qualcomm Snapdragon chip with integrated 5G baseband.

Undoubtedly, 5G has become the key word for Qualcomm’s muscle show at the Snapdragon Summit this year. At the meeting, Qualcomm President Cristiano Amon repeatedly emphasized that 5G will bring new opportunities to Qualcomm and the industry, and the Snapdragon 5G platform will promote the industry’s goal of large-scale 5G deployment in 2020.

The chip module is a physical platform equipped with components such as millimeter wave modules and RF converters on the basis of baseband chips. This type of module can allow enterprise customers to reduce development costs and more quickly introduce industrial design Smart phones and IoT terminals quickly achieve 5G large-scale deployment.

Qualcomm announced that Verizon and Vodafone are the first operators to announce support for the Snapdragon Modular Platform Certification Program. It is expected that more operators will join this program in 2020.

In addition to the chip, Alex Katouzian also announced the launch of a new generation of Qualcomm ultrasonic fingerprint sensors, 3D Sonic Max. 3D Sonic Max supports a recognition area that is 17 times larger than the previous generation. It can support two fingers for fingerprint authentication at the same time, further improving security, and also improving unlocking speed and ease of use.
