The climate crisis, artificial intelligence, and vaccines are the hottest studies of 2019.

From the universal application of artificial intelligence to the climate emergency that is closely related to everyone, the most controversial topic this year can be published today in the “Altmetric Hundred Papers” (Altmetric Top 100) . The annual “Altmetric Hundred Papers” list contains the most followed and most discussed research online in 2019. These online platforms include patent and public policy literature, mainstream media, blogs, Wikipedia, and social media.

This year’s first 100 papers cover many topics. Among them, the cruel truth of the world’s climate emergency, the importance of vaccines to public health, and the development of artificial intelligence have received the most attention.

Other prominent themes include the UK parliamentary adjournment, Twitter fake news during the 2016 US presidential election, mortality and survival rates in Game of Thrones, how Brexit affects UK healthcare, and population health management algorithms Racial prejudice.

This year’s most watched paper describes a video synthesis system that can synthesize realistic video sequences that mimic the voice and expression of a particular individual. Egor Zakharov and Victor Lempitsky are two of the authors.

Zakharov said: “The inspiration of the paper comes from the need to make augmented reality and virtual reality more realistic. The important point to realize the application of realistic presence is to realistically simulate a person’s appearance, and we choose to perfect it with deep learning.

Lempitsky added: “We first train a new deep learning model with a large number of celebrity videos. This technique requires only a few personal photos to learn a realistic head avatar.”

This paper is also the most widely shared paper in the seven years since Altmetric 100 Papers was born.

Altmetric’s Chief Operating Officer Catherine Williams said, “From the‘ Altmetric Hundred Papers ’each year, we can see different trends,This is very interesting. In 2019, it is clear that the current climate emergency and political multipolarity have sparked huge public attention and debate. This list shows the key role research plays in these topics. “

This year’s papers have been published in 43 different journals, preprint servers and government websites. Among them, Harvard authors (11 papers) and a paper published in Nature Top 10 in 2019 list
