According to foreign media reports, Huawei recently released sales data of its foldable smartphone Mate X, which is about 100,000 units per month. Since Mate X went on sale in China in mid-November last year, this means that it has sold about 200,000 units so far since its release.

Given that Mate X is only sold in China and is more expensive than similar Samsung Galaxy Fold products, Mate X is priced at 16999 yuan (about 2400 US dollars), while Galaxy Fold is priced at 1980 US $ ), This sales figure is not particularly disappointing.

However, total Mate X sales should be lower than Samsung Galaxy Fold. Samsung executives initially stated that since the Galaxy Fold went on sale in South Korea last September, 1 million units have been sold, but later corrected that number to “400,000 to 500,000 units” at CES.

Huawei and Samsung are the two leaders in the race to bring foldable smartphones to market in 2019. At CES 2019, prototypes of foldable smartphones abound. But Samsung beat most of its top competitors with the release of the Galaxy Fold, despite the subsequent ups and downs.

Samsung delayed the release of the Galaxy Fold due to production issues, and then postponed the sale to November to complete and improve its foldable screen. Huawei Mate X was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2019 and was originally scheduled to be released in July of that year.

Huawei has not officially announced the launch date of Mate X outside of China, but has previously said that it will be available in Europe in the first quarter of this year. MatThe half-screen of the e X can be flipped backwards, so when folded, it has screens on both sides. Mate X’s second-generation iterative product is expected to debut at MWC 2020 next month.

At CES this year, the trend of foldable devices has expanded from mobile phones to notebooks. Many media have rated the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 as the best CES 2020 exhibit and expect more foldable laptops to emerge in the coming months.
