On January 20, the epidemic situation in Wuhan became serious. I used to go to university in Wuhan and stayed there for 7 years. Many relatives and friends were there, and I asked the newspaper to take the initiative. At 5 pm on the 21st, I set off from Chengdu to Wuhan.

Before I went to Wuhan, I called my cousin. She was an ophthalmologist at a tertiary hospital in Wuhan. At that time, she told me that the situation was not good. According to her understanding, the ophthalmologist was infected. Because too many people sent out hot clinics, their offices were also requisitioned, and they also told me the case of an infected doctor.

I also talked to my mother and wife on the phone. My mother is in Xiangyang, Hubei, and my wife is in Xiaogan, Hubei. They certainly opposed it, but they also knew that what I insisted on going couldn’t dissuade me.

All the luggage I carry is only a backpack and a small shoulder bag. I bring my changed underwear, computer and interview book. I knew Wuhan notch mask at that time, so I brought five or six PM2.5 masks, which can be used repeatedly.

I was relatively calm at first, judging that the mortality rate at that time was not particularly high, and that all the deceased were elderly patients who were 70 or 80 years old and had other complications. I feel that as long as the protective measures are in place, and they have sufficient rest and strong immunity, it will not be a big deal, so there is no need to be overly nervous.

On the 22nd, my colleague and I went in two separate ways, running to several major hospitals in Wuhan, seafood markets, and Hankou Railway Station. I interviewed at the hospital for a day, including Houhu District of Wuhan Central Hospital and Jinyintan Hospital. Seeing patients lined up for injections in the outpatient hall, it takes 5 or 6 hours to hang the number of the respiratory department. Due to the lack of kits, many people cannot be diagnosed, and doctors are powerless.

I also returned to the hotel and watched the online video to know that some hospital doctors burst into tears because of high-intensity work.

The disinfection in the lounge is well done. The 24-hour UV disinfection eliminates the need for masks and protective clothing. In Zhongnan Hospital, the supplies are not scarce, but they are still very scarce. Protective clothing is disposable and consumes an average of three sets per day, with limited supply of masks.

The first time I felt nervous was on the day of closing the city on January 23, and my colleagues called me at 2 amHe told me that his friend’s relative died after the diagnosis. The other was on January 24th. In an interview at the hospital, in order to avoid the use of passenger elevators, I went to use the freight elevator, which said the patient passageway. After the elevator docked and opened the door, a nurse in protective clothing came with a bag of medical rubbish in my hand, and I just wore a mask and felt that I was exposed to the virus. I was really worried at the time.

At 11 o’clock on New Year’s Eve, I called my wife and called my mother at 12 o’clock. My mother has never contacted me once in these days, for fear that my front line is busy. Just remind me before you go, “You can stop calling these two days, but send me a WeChat message, no matter what.”

Despite the closure of the city, I never thought about leaving Wuhan. Where can I go after leaving? I ca n’t go home to see my family.

In addition to running news, my information is also obtained from various groups in the circle of friends and WeChat. Although there is a blind spot at the forefront, we see a narrow field of vision, the reality in front is limited, and the information on the Internet is comprehensive.

I am very happy to be assigned to the frontline department this time. I also thought that if I became infected, I would isolate myself, rest more, drink more water, and not tell my family.
