Here, like everyone else, I am just a witness. My life has become part of this event. I live here, with everything. ——S.A.Alexievich

Region | Huanggang City, Hubei Province

Yancun is a small village in the mountainous area of Edong. It takes an hour to reach from the town. The mountain road is rugged along the way, catching the meeting car, you have to move for a long time to pass. Like many villages, the main residents here are the elderly and children. During the Spring Festival, migrant workers and students returned to the village one after another. I am one of them.

The days in the village are long. After dinner, the men took the chopsticks and went to play cards. After the women had packed up, they sat in the yard and chatted with the neighbouring neighbours. This relaxation suddenly tightened when Huanggang closed the city.

In the evening of January 21st, my uncle and I also participated in the sub-leasing conference of the village group at the end of the year. Prior to this, Huanggang City reported 12 new cases of new pneumonia, and no one was wearing a mask at the venue. More than a dozen family representatives crowded in a hall, clapping at the table and yelling at the opposite person. . Things in Wuhan and Huanggang are too far away from here.

On the 22nd, my father returned from the town and said that four cases have occurred in the county and the county government is in a meeting. Uncle watched me nervous and waved his hand and said, “We don’t have to worry about anything here. You see that war and SARS are suffering in the city, and the life in the countryside is very good.” That night, the uncle drove to Wuhan to pick up the work in Shenzhen Cousin. My cousin mentioned the experience on the road and said that people who have been to Wuhan have the feeling that everyone in the train station is wearing a mask. If you don’t have it, it is strange.

While at 10:00 on the 23rd, Wuhan will close the city, and at 2400, Huanggang will close the city. At the same time, Luo Tian also heard the news of closing the city. I joked with my family and said, “Now, I can’t go out.” In previous years, after the third day, the family would go out one after another. “It’s a year of reunion,” said his mother helplessly.

On New Year’s Eve, people returning from Wuhan in the village were asked to go to the health clinic to check their temperature. Village doctor’s introduction: The leaders of each group notified that returnees from Wuhan and Huangzhou come to report every morning. If there is a thermometer at home, they can call to report safety.

Two people had fever during the test. They were advised to go to Luotian People’s Hospital for further examination, but because of fear of being isolated, they chose to isolate themselves at home. Fortunately, it was a common cold, and the two called to report a fever the next day.

In the evening of New Year’s Eve, the “big horn” came to tour the village.

Uncle brushed the video of road closures in other villages on Douyin, and called on WeChat groups to cut trees and seal roads. There were three or five responses all at once, without eating dinner, and holding a sickle, they cut down two trees next to the village entrance and stopped them on the road. The tree-cutting man said quite successfully: “We are the safest here. People who come back from the field return early. As long as no one comes in, they are safe.” Excited for a moment, everyone yelled jokeGet up: “I don’t have to come out to celebrate the New Year tomorrow, except for those who play cards, don’t come out.”

My father, cousin and younger brother and I stood by the fire to stay at zero on New Year’s Eve. The sound of fireworks and firecrackers in the village continued to flow as usual.

On the first day of the new year, my aunt and mother still cooked the “Yuanbao” (eggs) in the early morning, set the snacks, and burn the charcoal fire. In case the neighbor comes to visit the New Year. But no one came. Several restless people came together to play cards. At the village entrance, trees blocking the road have been destroyed.

At noon on the 25th, the village committee communicated the “closure of the village” notice, this time with a sprinkler truck to stop the village’s road to the town.

On the second day, my aunt ’s family came to pay us New Year. I ca n’t believe it. On the third day, we went to our aunt ’s house to pay New Year. I met a village official who criticized my uncle: “I said I ca n’t celebrate the New Year and I ca n’t go to the door.” The uncle explained: “I only went to my eldest sister’s house. I didn’t go to my second sister’s house when they returned from Wuhan.” So I said nothing. I remembered what my mother said to me: “One way, we are like a paradise here.”

The fourth day is clear, every familyThe firewood is also running out. Some people go up the hill to cut firewood, and some people start picking up their own vegetable garden. People at the door can always see the people carrying the tree or the vegetable basket, and the sound of someone drinking across the field.

Until the afternoon of the sixth day, the familiar loudspeaker is here again. This time brought a note of “return home, isolation at home” and a banner warning villagers. A villager was also notified that there was a patient diagnosed with pneumonia in the compartment he was riding in. The village doctor visited him personally and there was no abnormality. He has been back home for more than 2 weeks. There was another disaster along the village.

After that, there were no special circumstances, and everyone in the village was not allowed to go out. If you need essentials such as rice and oil, buy them at designated points. A villager asked, “What about the incense and paper money that I need in the fifteenth?” “Then you can’t buy it, only two supermarkets in the town are open.”

The village also has a WeChat group of returnees who require daily temperature reporting. Uncle brought a thermometer, but we were too lazy to measure it, and reported the individual temperature numbers to the group every day.

From February 1st, Huanggang has implemented resident travel control measures in urban areas and strictly controlled the travel of urban residents. And along the village, there is always a relaxed atmosphere. Father and mother’s rework dates have changed over and over again. “It’s really a day’s sleep and a holiday’s day.” Father watched the company’s notice on the phone and joked. “I would rather go to work,” cried the mother.
