On February 4, 2020, Jiao Yahui, deputy director of the National Medical and Health Care Administration of the National Health and Medical Commission, introduced it at a press conference held by the National Health and Medical Commission, as of 2 At 24:00 on March 3, the case fatality rate of confirmed pneumonia cases of new coronavirus infection was 2.1% in 31 provinces in Mainland China, 3.1% in Hubei, and 4.9% in Wuhan. If confirmed cases are excluded from provinces other than Hubei, the case fatality rate is 0.16%.

This means that the fatality rate of confirmed cases in Wuhan is about 30 times higher than in Hubei.

Why is there such a big disparity?

Jiao Yahui explained that Wuhan City’s early-stage critically ill patients were mainly admitted to three designated hospitals. There were only 110 beds for critical medicine in these three designated hospitals. Other critically ill patients are scattered in more than 20 medical institutions. Its admission does not fully implement the “Four Concentrations” principle. Patients are relatively scattered, which is not conducive to management, nor is it managed by a professional medical team in critical care. So the power of high-quality medical resources has been diluted to a certain extent, resulting in a higher mortality rate for patients with the disease.

Jiao Yahui said that now, adding tertiary A and other independent hospitals as designated hospitals for patients, organizing a team of academicians to visit, and organizing high-level hospitals nationwide to take over the management of critically ill patients in hospitals, and established a series of System, “I believe it won’t take long for this effect to show up, and the fatality rate in Wuhan should gradually decrease”.

A researcher from the Institute of Viral Disease Control and Prevention of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention told reporters at the Economic Observation Network that the reasons for the relatively low mortality of patients outside Hubei may be more diverse, including:

First, the cases in Wuhan and Hubei should start with a lot of paralyzed patients, many of which changed from mild to severe;

Second, after the Wuhan outbreak, medical resources were insufficient and serious illnesses were not treated in time;

Third, the second-generation or third- or fourth-generation cases are generally outside Hubei. Generally, the virus will weaken when the virus is applied to humans, because the host (Human) If you die, the virus will die too;

Fourth, medical resources outside Hubei are sufficient, and cases are treated promptly;

Fifth, patients outside Hubei attach great importance to the patients themselves, the government attaches great importance to them, and their families are also concerned. This will also help recovery.

Previously, a professor from the School of Public Health of Xiangya Medical College of Central South University also told the reporter of Economic Observation Network: From a bad perspective, the reasons for the much higher fatality rate in Wuhan and Hubei are at least partly because of < strong> In the early stage, many patients did not receive effective treatment, which delayed the timing; On the good side, hospitals in Wuhan and Hubei have also explored effective treatment methods, which has helped other countries across the country. Locally effectively reduce patient mortality.

According to the data released by the National Health Commission and the Health Commission of Hubei Province, as of 24:00 on February 3, the National Health Commission received 31 provinces (Autonomous regions, municipalities) and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps have reported a total of 20,438 confirmed cases and 425 deaths.

As of 24:00 on February 3, 2020, Hubei Province has reported a total of 13,522 cases of pneumonitis associated with new-type coronavirus infection, of which 6,384 were in Wuhan; 414 were fatal, of which 313 were in Wuhan.

Economic Observation Network reporter also counted the data published by the National Health Commission and the Hubei Province Health Commission for ten consecutive days. (see the figure below) The results show that the mortality rate of patients outside Hubei has been decreasing for 9 consecutive days; the mortality rate of Wuhan has also been decreasing for 4 consecutive days.
