Aging is a process in which various aspects of biological functions gradually decline. At the cellular level, protein homeostasis is one of the key systems related to aging.

Intracellular protein homeostasis means that the morphology and function of proteins with different functions remain normal. This homeostasis may cause dysregulation with age and cause accumulation of abnormal or unfolded proteins. For example, as we age, proteins in our brain accumulate, which can lead to Alzheimer’s disease or other neurodegenerative diseases. Perhaps many people have not realized that the protein in muscles will also accumulate, causing people to have muscle atrophy in old age.

Unfolded protein usually triggers unfolded protein response in young or healthy individuals
