In 1858, the first “washing machine” was born. It was made by Hamilton Smith in Pittsburgh, the United States. The washing machine consists of a drum with a straight shaft with paddle-shaped leaves. The shaft is rotated by shaking the crank connected to it.
This “machine” is not widely used because it is less labor-intensive than manual laundry and can damage clothes. After that, the “washing machine” experienced many years of “evolution” until the first electric-powered washing machine came out in 1911. In the 1920s, electricity was widely used in the West, and finally the washing machine was able to enter the ordinary family.
Compared with other traditional home appliances, the “washing machine” was born about 70 years ago. But in the later development path, the pace is getting slower and slower.
Since the washing machine has become a household necessity, there has never been a so-called “leapfrog evolution” in terms of functional form and innovative value.
