Mounir, the founder of Halan, and his family have been engaged in the loan industry. He contacted Gojek’s seed round investors in 2017 to understand the Gojek business model and decided to start Halan.
Halan ’s online motorcycles consist of two-wheeled motorcycles and three-wheeled motorcycles, and are targeted at low-income groups of the general public. The main modes of travel in Egypt, from high to low are taxis (Uber, Careem), buses (Swvl), and tricycles.
This low-income group prefers the cheapest three-wheeled motorcycle. At present, Halan has become Egypt’s largest online motorcycle platform, and plans to expand into Morocco, Iraq, Mexico, Ethiopia and other markets.
