The following is a textual record of this live broadcast by Researcher Zeng Xiangquan:

Good evening everyone!

I am very happy to share with you some of our thoughts and experiences on China ’s job market research. The topic of my speech today is “New Changes in China’s Employment Market: Opportunities, Challenges and Countermeasures”, and I hope it will be helpful for everyone’s future work and life.

Employment is the foundation of the people ’s livelihood and is related to thousands of households. It is very important for the government and enterprises, especially for the individual workers. In recent years, friends at home and abroad in the capital market have also been paying close attention to the Chinese job market. When investors pay attention to changes in the stock market, they will also pay close attention to the closely related internationalPerformance of market and domestic job market indicators.

Overall, China ’s employment situation is very good. Over the past 10 years, China has achieved tremendous achievements in employment and is recognized worldwide. In 2012, I accepted the invitation of the ILO headquarters in Geneva to introduce some of the results of our employment research in China, including some successful practices in employment in China.

The World Competitiveness Evaluation Report released by the Lausanne School of Management in Switzerland shows that China ranked eighteenth in the international world competitiveness evaluation in 2017, with three indicators China Ranked first in the world. Employment is one of the indicators. In addition to employment, there is also the domestic economy and labor market.

Now, the job market is changing, especially with the downward pressure on the economy in recent years, and some new conditions appearing in the job market. The new coronary pneumonia epidemic that broke out in January 2020 had a great negative impact and impact on the Chinese job market. According to the latest data released by the National Bureau of Statistics, the national unemployment rate in urban surveys in January rose from 5.3% to 6.2% in February, and the unemployment rate in 31 major cities increased from 5.2% to 5.7%. The overall unemployment rate surveyed nationwide last year was controlled within 5.5%, and this year the unemployment rate has clearly begun to rise.

China Employment Research Institute and Zhilian Recruitment regularly publish the “China Employment Market Prosperity Index Report”, which is released quarterly. At present, the report for the first quarter of 2020 has not yet been released, but preliminary analysis results show that the CIER (China Employment Market Prosperity) Index for the first quarter of 2020 is 1.43, which is a significant decrease regardless of the chain or year-on-year. Especially in terms of months, the CIER index has dropped from 2.47 in January to 1.02 in March, which has never happened in recent years.

Obviously, in the short term, the unemployment rate has increased, the prosperity has declined, and the pressure on the job market has increased. Despite external shocks (new coronary pneumonia epidemic) in the short term, on the whole, we must recognize that there are both opportunities and challenges to such shocks and impacts, and the two still coexist.

I personally believe that current and future analysis of China ’s job market requires attention to the following changes:

First, the decline in labor supply.
