The pioneer of reform and opening up for the country recommended by Bole

Ma Hong (1920-2007)

May 18, 2020 The day is the 100th anniversary of Ma Hong ’s birthday. The China Development Research Foundation, which belongs to the Development Research Center of the State Council, plans to invite Ma Hong’s family, friends, and students to write some commemorative articles in preparation for publication. The center is the starting point and ending point of my work in government agencies, and it has an unusual significance for my growth path. Recalling the past, there are thousands of thoughts. I would like to use this short essay to write down every bit of my past, and to pin my heart on the memory and gratitude to my predecessors.

In the late 1970s, China embarked on a glorious journey of reform and opening up. The second generation of the central leadership collective represented by Deng Xiaoping, “emancipating the mind and seeking truth from facts,” created a brand-new situation in which rapid economic development, continuous social progress, rapid improvement in people’s lives, and increasing national strength. A large number of senior cadres with deep qualifications and high status within the party firmly support and actively participate in the great cause of reform and opening up, and have made an indelible historic contribution to breaking through the restricted zone and inspiring the wisdom of the people. Among them, Ma Hong, the most important leader in Chinese economics, is a pioneer of reform and opening up that we always respect and remember.
