With the storage of family video data, the digitization and digitalization of certificates, and the backup of mobile phone data become the norm, family data assets are becoming larger and larger, but storage solutions for family users are rare on the market. The cost of using several head public cloud disk products has gradually increased, and there is a security risk of data privacy. Dare to store, cannot store, and high costs have become the pain points for home users in storage. Home private cloud with higher safety factor and relatively lower overall cost may become a new solution.

Recently contacted “Extreme Space” is a technology company that produces small intelligent storage servers. Provide private cloud software and hardware products for homes and small and medium-sized enterprises . Since October last year, the Polar Space team has been researching and developing NAS products. At present, the first device has been tested and will be mass-produced and listed in June.

Ultraspace, this home NAS device will target Baoma, who has massive photo storage needs, video enthusiasts with high-resolution video storage and playback needs, and NAS product enthusiasts, as the main target customers, priced between 1000-2000 yuan. The main functions of this product are as follows:

  • Multi-end automatic backup : Through the supporting software and ZOS operating system, photos, videos and other files on the user ’s mobile phone, computer, and tablet can be automatically backed up to the family ’s private hard drive. No matter where they are, users can get files in real time as long as they can connect to the Internet. If the computer or other equipment fails, users can use the NAS to recover data with one click.

  • Video download and playback : Supports high-speed offline download of files such as BT / PT. After completion, it will be automatically classified, and the corresponding posters, subtitles, actor lists and plots will be matched according to the file name Introduction. Support 4K Blu-ray level video playback, can assume the functions of Blu-ray player.

  • Large-capacity storage and transmission : It is equivalent to expanding the capacity of the user ’s device, and supports a maximum storage capacity of 16T * 2; it supports high-speed transmission of large files between users without having to split the file .

  • Multi-account data isolation : A data isolation mechanism is adopted to protect the privacy of the contents stored in the accounts of family members. Family members can manage the file of the corresponding account through the software on mobile phones, computers and other devices, but exceptThe contents of other accounts associated with the NAS device cannot be viewed outside the shared file.

After the launch of Extreme Space products, it will be sold online through e-commerce such as JD.com and Taobao. It will also be sold in offline business halls in cooperation with operators such as Telecom and Unicom. In the charging mode, in addition to the sales profit of NAS hardware equipment, the income of Extreme Space will also come from: 1. Data insurance services: charging users with low-cost annual insurance fees, such as hard disk damage during the period can help users recover data. 2. Hard disk upgrade service: If users have greater capacity requirements, Extreme Space will provide users with hard disk capacity upgrade services.

According to Yuan Bin, founder of Polar Space, Due to the high technical requirements and high barriers to use, there is currently no product that satisfies consumers in the home NAS device market. First of all, external network access and stable data transmission technology under complex networks have made many companies stuck in the first step of device development. Home NAS equipment is deployed in a home broadband environment with complex network conditions and strict protection mechanisms. It is very difficult to access home storage devices from the external network. The point-to-point data stable transmission technology that can achieve this function has a high technical threshold. Secondly, the complicated operation of traditional NAS devices has caused great problems for users. Head NAS manufacturers have mainly developed products for enterprise users for a long time, without considering the needs of ordinary C-end consumers, and the equipment operation is difficult. After overcoming the technical difficulties in accessing and stabilizing the external network, the Polar Space team designed software based on user experience to enhance the ease of use of the device and ensure that ordinary users can also easily operate.

In the product development process, privacy and data security are the most important issues in Extreme Space. Usually when users store data on the hard disk, the biggest worry is that the data is difficult to recover or completely lost after the hard disk is damaged. Polarspace has developed a ZOS system based on the Linux operating system and compatible with various mainstream operating systems to monitor the operation of the hard disk. Once an abnormality is found, the system will immediately send multiple warnings to the user to remind the user to check, repair or replace the hard disk. In addition, Polar Space also sets up a secure encryption mechanism for external access to data. Anyone who uses an app or webpage to log in to the device must perform multiple login authentication to avoid malicious access and attacks.

Yuan Bin said that currently the most competitive home NAS equipment track is still the old NAS manufacturers such as Synology, QNAP, etc., but these manufacturers have a large market share on the B side, and they have gained a lot of money. Ordinary home users at the end do not pay attention. Although companies such as Xiaomi and Huawei have also tried to enter the field, there is still much room for improvement in the experience of their products.

Polar Space plans to start with the C-end home NAS market, polish products, build brand recognition, and further explore the B-end SME service market. Yuan Bin believes that at present, although home NAS equipment is a relatively niche market, butWith development prospects, the future market size can reach 2-3 million units / year, and the industry’s net profit margin is high, which can bring stable cash flow to the company.

In terms of team background, Yuan Bin, the founder of Polar Space, served as the CTO of LeTV and the vice president of iQiyi technology products. He has managed the technical team of thousands of people and participated in LeTV, LeTV mobile phones, LeTV video, cloud computing, Internet of vehicles E-commerce, Internet finance and other business system construction. There are more than 30 people in the Polar Space team, most of them also come from companies such as iQiyi and LeTV. More than 80% are software engineers, 10% are hardware engineers, and there are also marketing and sales personnel.

The Polar Space team is currently planning a pre-A round of financing at the tens of millions of RMB. The company has previously completed an angel round of financing of several million RMB.
