The Phase II trial of the Ad5-nCoV vaccine was launched in Wuhan in April this year. A total of 508 subjects who passed the screening participated. The subjects were divided into three groups for comparison. Among them, 253 received high-dose vaccine, 129 received low-dose vaccine, and 126 received placebo. Compared to Phase I, the team in the Phase II trial not only increased the number of subjects, but also expanded their age range to include people over 55 years of age.
After 28 days of observation, the research team found that 96% of subjects in the high-dose group and 97% of the subjects in the low-dose group were positive for serum antibodies, and neutralizing new coronaviruses appeared in both dose groups. The neutralizing antibodies proved that the vaccine can effectively induce an immune response in a wider range of people.
In addition, the research results showed that there were no serious adverse reactions in clinical trials. This further validates its safety and effectiveness, and provides a more positive prerequisite for the ongoing phase III clinical trials and even approval for marketing.
Compared with Moderna’s “nothing but nothing”, these peer-reviewed data are obviously much more reliable.
In addition to these data, there are two other things that also make Ad5-nCoV attract great attention in China.
