Title” class=”text-big-title”>Four. Summary: Provide high-level digital support for the elderly

Go back to the topic at the beginning of the article-“Do you support the opening of face payment for the elderly?”. The deeper question behind this debate is, How to provide digital services and support for the elderly?

Based on this, this article focuses on desk research, supplemented by small-scale research, trying to point out several important situations in the current situation of the elderly in China, and discuss them, namely:

①There is a big difference between the elderly. The economic situation and quality of life of the poor and living alone rural elderly are significantly lower than other elderly groups;

②Among the laws and regulations related to the elderly, 96% are only guiding policy documents;

③The current society still holds negative or negative views on the value of elderly participation in social construction, and the incentives for the elderly are limited;

④The digital life of the elderly is evolving rapidly in the post-epidemic era, especially e-commerce and online finance.

When providing high-level digital services and support for the elderly, it should be based on basic factual understanding. Specific suggestions are as follows:

First, do not ignore, forget, or give up any senior citizen who needs digital services. Although there are differences in health status, digital ability, and ability to pay within the elderly group, the more difficult the elderly are, the more they need to be empowered by various forces from all walks of life. For example, for more than 40% of the elderly living alone in China (including spouse), computer vision is used to assist elderly fall detection. The Tencent Instant Vision team developed based on this The smart elderly care system that takes into account privacy has been promoted and applied in Shenzhen Nursing Home.

Second, give the elderly the necessary “digital hot start”. In the context of the epidemic, a considerable number of elderly people are rapidly advancing the digital process. The reasons are many. However, it is particularly instructive that the offline help of family members, neighbors and other acquaintances during the epidemic is crucial. They put in great enthusiasm, patience and contextualization ability to help the elderly take the “digital first step”. So for the elderly who do not have family members or neighbors to help, is there any alternative to the social and technical side? For example, Meicai e-commerce has developed a community “leader” and encouraged the head to lead, help and teach the elderly to place orders for fresh department stores, which has played a good driving effect.

Thirdly, we must protect, but also encourage, and develop the life potential of the elderly. With the progress of society, the level of realization of the needs of the elderly is also improving, which is a signal worthy of attention. Especially for those knowledgeable and self-fulfilling elderly who have a high level of mental development, strong life activity ability, and strong self-esteem, they attach great importance to spiritual comfort and psychological satisfaction in spiritual life. This actually puts forward higher-level requirements for policies, technologies, and products, that is, to come up with a higher level of digital support to maintain and promote the life subjectivity and initiative of the elderly, and stimulate their life potential. . For example, work hard on high-quality digital content so that the elderly can gain spiritual self-sufficiency, self-confidence, and self-improvement while watching dramas, playing cards, and writing short videos.

Fourth, improve protection measures for the rights of the elderly in the digital scene. The first is to institutionalize the principles and rules for the distribution of digital resources between the elderly and other groups, so that they can enjoy fairness in the possession of digital well-being; Conflict of interest, through the establishment of corresponding coordination rules for conflicting interest relations, to achieve a dynamic and rational balance between groups; the third is to provide fair legal channels and relief mechanisms for preventing and resolving disputes involving the elderly.

The situation of Ms. Peng in Xudong District of Wuhan mentioned at the beginning of the article is a future that all of us are unwilling to experience. Old age is the most mature and full phase in a person’s life, and “ageing” should not be an excuse for any prejudice. How to provide appropriate, considerate, and high-level digital support is the common proposition of the aging society and the digital society.

A journey of a thousand miles, the setting sun is bright.
