Lanhua was eighteen or nine years old. The year she first married, her father-in-law died when he went up the mountain to chop wood. Then her husband died of illness, leaving only two widows in the family. Shi couldn’t stand the blow and fell ill in bed. It happened to catch up with this year’s spring, drought, and autumn floods. There was no harvest. The only grain in the family was sold and there was not enough money for Shi’s medical treatment. Lanhua had to go out to beg every day, leaving her mother-in-law with her dry mouth, and drinking only some thin soup to satisfy her hunger.
In a disaster year, food is hard to come by. On this day, Lanhua only needs half a piece of bran vegetable cake and half a bowl of wild vegetable soup from early morning to noon. She wanted to rush home and wait for her mother-in-law to take medicine and eat, but she was too hungry to move, so she wanted to drink the vegetable soup first. As soon as he opened his mouth, he heard a faint groan, and saw a yellow-skinned grandmother leaning under the tree on the side of the road. The grandmother said shiveringly: “Girl, I’ve been hungry for three days, can you…”
Lanhua has a kind heart and hurried to the grandmother and brought the vegetable soup to her. Mouth. The old grandma took the bowl, drank the soup in a few mouthfuls, and licked the bowl again and said, “If I can eat something dry, I might be able to walk vigorously…” Lanhua touched her arms. That half of the bran vegetable pancake, hesitated for a moment, thinking about giving her mother-in-law something to eat later, and now let’s take this pancake to save people.
Lanhua took out the vegetable pancake from her arms and handed it to the grandmother. The grandmother reached out and took it, swallowing her belly in two mouthfuls, almost choking. The grandmother took a break and said: “Daughter, thanks to you for saving my life today, but I don’t know what to do next after eating this meal. Well, sooner or later, it’s not going to starve to death! Girl, thank you, you go quickly… …” The old lady was full of tears before she finished speaking.

When Lanhua heard the old lady say this, her heart was sour, and she also shed tears. After thinking for a while, she had an idea, and said to the grandmother, “Auntie, I have no mother since I was a child, and now I live with my mother-in-law at home. It’s better to recognize you as a godmother, and you will go back with me and be my mother-in-law. . Anyway, I serve one mother, and two mothers serve, and Lanhua will have two mothers in pain in the future!” The grandmother took Lanhua’s hand and said, “Child, in this year of disaster, are you not afraid of multiple burdens?” I’m going to beg for food in the future. I’m going to run faster. Ganniang, sit and wait for me, and then I will go to Dongzhuang to give my mother-in-law something to eat.”
After a while, Lanhua came back to beg. Back home with Ganniang. Shi sees Lanhua bringing her back a talking companion, and is very happy. But with more people, life is harder. Every day when it is dark, Lanhua leaves the village with a beggar basket. She walks to Dongzhuang and Chuanxizhuang. She has to run dozens of miles a day. When she comes home, she has to wait on her mother-in-law and god-in-law, and she has to be washed and repaired.
As the days passed, the two old men gradually recovered under Lanhua’s care. But Lanhua was exhausted and hungry, and his body was worse than every day.

That night, after Gan Niang waited for Lanhua to wait for Shi to sleep, she beckoned to call Lanhua to the courtyard and said, “Oh Lanhua, I will come to your house It has been three, seventy and twenty-one days since my merits have been fulfilled. Let me tell you the truth, I was originally the maid of the crane in front of the Guanyin seat, and the person who came to visit and investigate the filial piety under the decree of the Guanyin Bodhisattva, you are the person I was looking for. The stone is handed over to you.” She stretched out her hand and saw a bluestone slab with a palm length and three fingers wide on her palm. She went on to say: “Don’t look at it small, as long as you say to it, “Please help me.” , It can immediately become wider and longer, and what you want. Remember, you can only know about this slate. If you say it, you will die soon!” After speaking, it turned into a crane and flew away.
Lanhua came to her room with a slate in his hand, put the slate on the ground, folded his hands together, and bowed to the slate for three times and said: “Please help me…” Seeing a flash of golden light, the small stone slab grew to six feet long and three feet wide. Lanhua said: “Please give me food and cloth.” After a golden light passed, the stone slabs were piled up with food, grains and cloth.
The next day, when Lanhua brought the fragrant food and the new clothes made overnight to Shi Shi, Shi Shi asked suspiciously, “Where did this all come from? Also, what about my old sister?” Lanhua said, “Last night, Ganniang’s brother came and took him back home overnight. Ganniang’s brother is very rich, but he has been doing business outside. He saw I was kind to Gan Niang, so I sent a lot of money, grain, and cloth, and said that I would help my neighbors more.”
To soothe Shi’s family, Lanhua put food, money and other items from house to house. They were sent door-to-door to the neighbors and told the villagers: “If you have any difficulties, please contact me. My uncle wants me to do meritorious services for him.” Regarding the loose grains, they all flocked to Lanhua’s door, forming a long line. From morning till night, orchid is too busy to eat. She gives people what they want from the house. People say that orchid is a living bodhisattva who saves suffering.
