JD.com, Alibaba, Tencent, Meituan may be identified as aerospace beneficiary stocks.

After nearly two years, Cathie Wood, known as the “female Buffett”, launched the first new ETF-Ark Space Exploration ETF (ARKX). On March 30, the ETF closed down 0.98% on the first day of trading, with a turnover exceeding US$294 million.

According to the introduction, the Ark Space Exploration ETF mainly tracks companies engaged in space exploration and innovation in the United States and the world. The holding companies are divided into four categories:

  • Orbital aerospace: refers to companies that conduct launch, manufacturing, service or operating platforms in the orbital field, including satellites, launch carriers, etc.

  • Suborbital aerospace: refers to companies that conduct launch, manufacturing, service or operating platforms in the suborbital field, including drones, flying taxis, etc.

  • Technology promotion: Refers to technological innovation companies that create added value for space operations, including artificial intelligence, robotics, 3D printing, raw materials and energy storage, etc.

  • Aerospace benefit category: refers to companies that may benefit from aerospace activities. The main business includes agriculture, network access, global positioning system, construction, and imaging.

It is worth noting that JD.com, Alibaba, Tencent, and Meituan, four Chinese stocks that seem to have nothing to do with space exploration, all appeared on the holding list. Among them, JD’s holding weight ranks fifth among 39 stocks, even more than a group of established military companies such as Lockheed Martin and Boeing.

The listing of the Ark Space Exploration ETF has once again aroused the market’s attention to the space investment field. There is a view that the launch of the ETF coincides with the launch of the listing process of many space companies.

For example, according to reports, billionaire Richard Branson has hired a bank to promote the listing of its airline “Virgin Orbit” through SPAC.

According to the classification of ETF holding companies, JD.com, Alibaba, Tencent, and Meituan may be identified as aerospace beneficiary stocks by Casey Wood. Today the Hong Kong stock market opened, JD.com rose more than 2%, Alibaba and Tencent both rose more than 1%.
