On November 8, SAIC Volkswagen completed the construction of its first new energy vehicle plant in Shanghai, China. The plant has an annual production capacity of 300,000 units and will be officially put into operation in October 2020. On the same day, the first ID of the new factory was taken off the production line.

SAIC Volkswagen Anting New Energy Plant is the first MEB plant built by Volkswagen Group in the world and the first MEB platform factory in China. The plant started construction in October last year, with a total investment of 17 billion yuan. In the future, it will mainly produce pure electric series and follow-up models of Volkswagen, Skoda and Audi.

The MEB platform is a modular platform developed by the Volkswagen Group specifically for the production of pure electric vehicles. The battery pack of the platform product is extremely expandable, and the driving force level can be adjusted according to the use of different models, and the cruising range can be up to 550 km or more.

The first ID. car on the line is a pure electric mid-size SUV based on the MEB platform. According to SAIC Volkswagen, this will be the first ID. family model to be put into production in the future. It is expected to be officially unveiled in the second half of 2020.

In the future, the Volkswagen ID. family will introduce models in China that include pure electric SUVs, pure electric crossovers, and pure electric hatchbacks. SAIC Volkswagen said that the preparations for the production and assembly of the subsequent production models have also been fully launched. The world’s first production model ID.3, which has been put into production at the Zwickau factory in Germany, will also be in the new energy plant of SAIC Volkswagen in the future. produce.
