A few days ago, a friend on Zhihu asked me a private offer question. He is a recent graduate in 2020 and has received two bank offers: one is a state-owned large bank function management training, base Beijing, grass-roots training for one year passed the dual election meeting (the employment department and employees select two-way choices during appointments. One internal recruitment) back to the head office; one is the financial management of the head joint-stock bank company, base Shenzhen, back to the head office after 2 years of grassroots training, and also participate in the dual election.

In terms of these two jobs, the salary is slightly different, but not disparate; the work locations are all first-tier cities; state-owned companies win on the platform, and joint-stock companies win on the business.

The first job is the starting point of your career and it is very important. But there are too many factors that determine the offer selection. How many offers should I choose? The long road to work is inevitable and the road is constantly changing. What should we pay attention to to run this marathon well? In this article, we talk about these.

Beginning into the workplace and accumulating three “fuels”

It seems like the water is shining, and I missed it. From entering the workplace to the middle-aged crisis, it took only a blink of an eye. When choosing the first job, salary is important, and accumulation of job skills is more important. The so-called “strict adherence to the plan during the day can bring open choices at night”, to solve the 35-year-old problem in the workplace, the answer is before the age of 35.

In his book Vision: How to Plan 3 Stages of Career, Ryan Featherstone divides the work skills that need to be accumulated in the workplace into three categories: transferable skills, meaningful experiences, and lasting He called it “workplace fuel.”

(1) Transferable skills

It mainly refers to some basic capabilities that can be migrated across platforms. Hard skills such as “educational experience”, “computer certificate”, “level 6 English”, “proficient use of office software”, and “passing CPA exams” written in your resume are transferable. They are acquired in schools and are suitable for job hunting.

After joining the company, some “soft skills” should be cultivated, such as “learning ability”, “documentary ability”, “basic emotional intelligence”, “teamwork”, “efficient communication”, and so on.

The first few years of work should focus on developing transferable skills, especially paying attention to making up for shortcomings; but after a few years of work, you must change your focus in time, focus on accumulating “meaningful experiences”, and find and cultivate longboards. The workplace is a Pay attention to the world of teamwork.

(2) Meaningful experience

In the book, Ryan Featherstone recommends that you accumulate meaningful experiences such as personal travel, overseas work experience, entrepreneurial experience, community volunteers, and public speaking.

It does make sense, but these are not common in the Chinese workplace and may not apply. Our pace is too fast, and we prefer to go straight to the theme-to develop professional skills with growth and barriers.

These skills are usually tied to specific positions, such as marketing promotion, risk assessment, project management, product operations, R & D design, content writing, etc., emphasize professionalism and pursue irreplaceability. This way, in the future, you will not easily feel the pressure from newcomers and interns, let alone worry about being replaced by machines.

(3) Persistent relationship

In the domestic context, we prefer to talk about connections or social currency. These two words are the darlings of successful learning, full of the flavor of hormones and Daliwan. In fact, we don’t have to exclude. In the growth process, we have to work hard, and we can’t do without the help and help from our colleagues and colleagues. We will also help others when we have the ability.

In “Hometown China”, Mr. Fei Xiaotong described China’s social relationship network as a poor order pattern, with the “self” as the center to push outward, circle by circle, like ripples after the stones enter the water, the more outward Weaker. One line is blood, fighting tiger brothers, going to battle with fathers and sons, and matching with filial piety; one line is mentoring, brothers are on the ground, why should flesh and blood match with faithfulness.

In modern society, a career line must be added. Colleagues, partners, and customers must be matched by mutual trust and mutual benefit. In addition, in the information age, the use of social platforms to form industry influence will have a leveraged effect on the establishment of workplace relationships, and do more with less.

Do the right thing and stay focused

The accumulated workplace fuel must be consumed on the correct career path.

What is the right career path? Bard Cardell, a strategic consultant, divides work into three categories: those who are good at doing things, those who like to do things, and those who can make money. The so-called “correct” exists in the permutations and combinations of the three types of work:

(1) If you like and are good at doing something, but cannot make a living from it, you should learn to realize your skills;

(2) If you are good at something and can make money from it, but do n’t like it, learn to say no;

(3) If you like to do something and can make money from it, but not very good at it, learn to do it well.

Multiple ways in the workplace, give you some advice

The main point is to do what you like, do it well, and turn it into what the world needs to find out how to make money. After that, I will continue to do it.

However, it is not easy to establish barriers in the professional field. Malcolm Gladwell put forward the “10,000-hour law” in The Alien, and he gave an example:

“Once musicians have enough ability to be among the top music schools, they can only work hard to distance themselves from other students. This is the case. Those who are the best are not only harder or more diligent than others , And very diligent … Achievement is equal to talent plus practice. Practice is not something that you do after you become proficient, but you only become proficient after you practice. “

In turn, the best way to keep working is to like it from the bottom of your heart. When we were in our 20s or 30s, we were young and full of energy. Our satisfaction mainly comes from outside of work—such as promotion and salary increase, but as long as you do n’t really like the job, after 40 years of age, all kinds of problems Will appear.

At this time, the space for promotion and salary increase is getting smaller and smaller, and there are more and more challenges from the body and family. Unless you really like it, it will not be enough to support your continuous investment. So you start going downhill and encountering middle age crisis.

“There is no mastery or strength to leave passion.” Doing what you like is a prerequisite for doing the right thing.

Cultivate a few good habits

The workplace is long and needs to be accompanied by good habits.

(1) Reading

In early 2019, I wrote a “ I urge you not to rush to read ” article, emphasizes that reading must have a sense of rhythm, and opposes the use of reading to create the illusion of learning, self-movement, self-deception. Fix it now: do n’t have to pursue a sense of rhythm,
