Do you stick to your love, or do you want to survive? Become a lingering question mark in every startup, even everyone.

During the epidemic, I saw a circle of friends at home that made me very touched.

A friend of mine said that he was trapped at home remotely every day. His mother started asking when he saw him at work,

Can your company still pay? Are you about to lose your job? I told you earlier that I want to be a civil servant, and to protect the drought and floods of civil servants, I don’t need to worry about whether I will lose my job.

He said in a circle of friends,

It just crashed.

Interestingly, another friend of mine left a comment below,

What’s so good about being a civil servant. I was sent to the front line of the epidemic for the first time, and I won’t be able to return home in the New Year. Are you sure your mother wants you to do such work? span>

You will find that under the epidemic, the feedback from different people is very different. But what struck me the deepest was not just the circle of friends itself, but the fact that I remembered a debate game I played in Chaos this March.

The title of this debate is “In times of crisis, is it important for startups to stick to their mission, or is it more important to survive?”

An epidemic has undoubtedly put many of us back in this debate.

Under the crisis of all walks of life, as an individual, will you stick to your career and survive tenaciously, or switch to a stable company and choose a life of peace of mind?

Why do you feel home in the midst of fluctuations?

I remember that during the debate, the argument drawn by our team was-insisting on mission is more important. At that time, our teammates felt that it was over. What else was the company’s mission?

But fortunately, our group won the final debate. A key argument for winning is that if a team dissolves today because it has no money, there is a high probability that it will be impossible to come to this team in the future. But if this team is willing to blog for the mission and have to kneel down without money, they may have a chance in the fierce entrepreneurial battlefield.

However, at the timeThis is just a virtual debate. However, today’s epidemic situation, whether the team can still survive without money, has become an urgent issue in front of many entrepreneurial teams. On the surface, this is a question of team cohesion. It is essentially living torture you. Why does your business exist? What is it that keeps you going?

For many people, starting a business and finding a job is to make a lot of money. If the company can’t make money, the employees will naturally be scattered.

But the people and companies in this world who understand clearly, how much they must have made for the reason why they exist, but what do you want to bring to this world?

In the early days of the epidemic, I saw news that a female doctor in her 80s was going to the front line. The reporter asked her why you are going to such a dangerous place. Is n’t that a place where you have no money and are dead?

She said that the doctor died on the front line of the life-saving wounds.

The words of this grandma doctor touched me deeply. Each of us will subconsciously escape under the crisis. We are shaken, afraid, afraid that wages will not come out, afraid of unemployment, and fear of company closure.

However, if we think about it for a longer time, in today’s Uka era, our future life is actually very likely to encounter a greater crisis than this epidemic. In the big age, what power should we rely on to support ourselves through these difficulties?

Guidelines for self-help given to ordinary people in epidemic conditions

How can I find my inner strength?

As a doctor, what was right during the epidemic? As myself, in the crisis of life, what is the most correct thing to do?

This reminds me of a sentence that Kazuo Inamori often asks himself: “Being born, what is right?” How can we find what we think is right, and persist in it?

I went to Berkshire’s annual shareholder meeting in May this year and I was very fortunate to have a face-to-face communication with Mr. Munger.

In the face of Mr. Munger, I asked a long-standing question in my heart-investing in such a long historical cycle, what is the force that allows you to overcome the wars and fluctuations in the middle. What is power?

I think this is a worthwhile study, because we never thought about how a person can stand firm in one’s life in a lifetime, no longer be heard by others.Left and right?

Munger said, “IntellectualHonesty” (honesty in knowledge).

What is honesty about knowledge?

In essence, you have your own circle of abilities. And your ability circle should be built on some solid cornerstones, not just the so-called “expertise”. And this solid knowledge cornerstone is the universal wisdom described by Munger, which can be used to cope with and resolve the various twists and turns in your life.

For example, Munger once answered the question, “What kind of job should people look for?” Generally, when we answer such questions, we often think about: looking at the development trend of the industry, how to improve our professional skills, and so on.

But Munger ’s answer is very simple and universal:

The first one is not to sell things you do n’t want to buy;

Second, don’t work with people you disrespect and dislike;

The third one only works with people you like.

It sounds like simple common sense, but common sense is the most powerful.

If you really follow these simple common sense, you are more likely to have more confidence and courage to face the crisis with the team.

Actually, there is no crisis in the world, only change.

The so-called crisis is the disillusionment of fantasy.

And common sense can bring you back from fantasy to reality.

So, our strength to face the crisis comes from really understanding what we do.

Because you really understand, you will not have unrealistic illusions about the future, so you can better cope with change.

However, being “honest to knowledge” rationally is actually a very high demand.

The other side of reason, courage

Why is it difficult for people to stay rational?

There may be many reasons, but I am very touched by two points.

The first is emotional distortion.

What is emotional distortion? When we deal with problems, we will bring our own emotions, and emotions will distort our thinking, that is, we will be kidnapped by our emotions.

There is a concept in psychology called “life script”. This means that we are sometimes in a looping script without knowing it. For example, our parents often quarrel in the same mode. Including you and past girlfriends arguing, the reason for the last breakup is the same.

The scenes of life are always changing, but we are distorted by our emotions in the change to repeat some patterns every time.

Therefore, when people want to get out of their adversity, the first step is to establish the rationality and live in peace with their emotions.

How do you get along with emotions and peace? When we are angry and sad, IIt is difficult for us to settle down. But science has found that there are two parts of our brain that we can understand as emotional brains and rational brains. But the interesting thing is that our two brains cannot work at the same time. In other words, it is difficult for us to mobilize reason in our emotions. But when you force yourself to invoke reason, your emotions will be suppressed.

So for example, when we are angry, we force ourselves to calculate a multiplication of 17 × 233, and you will find that our emotions go slowly, because our brain cannot be angry while thinking rationally.

By calming down and examining your behavior, this is the first step in building our reason.

So as I recommend to everyone in Studying Well: Persist in writing a reflective journal is a very useful way. If you do not examine the prejudices and distortions engraved in your bones in your life, you will not see your problems, and you will not be able to build up the power of reason. Therefore, Socrates said, “The life without reflection is not worth live”.

In addition to emotional distortions and the establishment of reason, there is a second problem-narrowness.

What is narrowness? It’s a single perspective and what we can’t see. Munger said that when you hold a hammer, the whole world is nailed because we can’t see anything else. When we have professional knowledge, our professional knowledge will become our barriers, blocking us from seeing things outside the professional field.

How to break this kind of cognitive barrier? The core method is to master the multiple thinking model.

A lot of people like to watch The Strange Talk because the debate itself is a good way for you to understand the world from multiple perspectives.

For another example, Ma Zhankai, the product manager of Sogou input method, once talked to me and said how can people make rapid progress? He mentioned a “Gemini Progression”. What is the “Gemini Progression”? You look for someone who is different from your field but has similar cognition. Discuss each other regularly so that two people can inspire and collide with each other the fastest. This is essentially to find a teammate to provide a different perspective of thinking.

Of course these are all technical aspects.

What really helps us open the bottom of the perspective is the curiosity. Curiosity leads us to different fields to find answers.

Guide to self-help for every ordinary person in the epidemic

To sum up:

1. In the long fluctuations of our lives, except for the epidemic situation, we will definitely encounter more and more fluctuations in the future. What makes you feel like home in such fluctuations? We need to gain courage beyond the present.

2. This courage comes not only from the belief in emotional power, but also to a great extent from the injection of rational light, and from the courage to stick to common sense.

3. Introspection and curiosity. When you are really doing what you love and really understand, you will understand what can beat you and what can’t beat you.

With love and persistence in rationality, you will have the courage to go on firm in various epidemics and crises.
